Default T-Bucket project, back from the dead

This thing has been lurking on my workbench, mocking me for more than 3 years. So I decided to do something with it. Again.

Step one, a new styrene body and bed. I was thinking nasty rat rod/junkyard build. The 3-speed is kinda wide, so I made a V8 engine shell...

Valve covers right on top like an old Buick Nailhead

This could be from a '50's International truck, or a tractor. Same thing, really.

Remember those horrible aftermarket turbo kits from the 1980's? Bet the junkyards are full of them if they haven't been crushed by now.

I built this just to see if I could. Don't know if I'll use it or not.

This must have been covered with dust. I would have seen this when I was in the man cave.

Can't wait to see where it ends up...

It's getting finished this time. I got my mojo workin!

More progress:

Timing cover, water pump, generator, starter. The belt is 1/16 half-round styrene.

Radiator hose and clamps. Hose clamps are actually pretty easy, wrap a strip of .001 styrene around the hose, cut a slot (razor saw works well) in a 1/16 rod and glue together.

Rear tires and wheels. You never know where you'll get some inspiration; this time I was buying cat food. Had to walk by the dog toys and spotted these chewy tires:

The center seam caught my eye. Hells bells, I says to me, that's a DOT slick. A lot of Dremel work later, and they are.

Overall shot with the turbo on

I like the yee-haw vibe with the shaker way up there.

It's a little bootleg

Just an aluminum strip sandwiched under the bearing with some JB Weld holding it in place. It's strong enough for this, but I don't trust it.

Looks junkyardy to me

Exhaust system with clamps, cheesy flex pipe, hangers and muffler

Plug wires

I've never seen Halibrands in the junkyard, but you could get lucky if it's a really good junkyard.

Painted the shaker. Looks like a Tenth Anniversary T/A died so this heapster could live. There's no justice in the junkyard.

Efficient and safe is for the OEM's Hit the yee-haw pedal and hold it til the valves float or the Dynaflo explodes.

It occurs to me that any junkyard with Halibrands is likely to have a big pile of Moroso hi-hat air cleaners. You might even find one with good chrome...

... and a halfway clean element.

Weathered the exhaust.

Thanks Norm!

After the little bitty letters on the air cleaner, I thought the tailgate script would be a breeze. It wasn't.

Buckets aren't known for copious legroom, even more so when half the interior has to hide electronics.

Some attention to the front tires now. I dremeled out some circumferential grooves to make these BFG's more streetable.

I could have painted these, but then they wouldn't be RAISED white letters. And no, I'm not compensating for anything.

A shiny aluminum frame was inconsistent with the character of the rod, so I painted it.

Body and paint today!

Some people see and old car in a field and think about fixing it up. Some people take potshots at it with a .45 Sometimes it's the same car.

Grille painted and weathered

Paint's coming off the radiator.

Join my fan club!

Overall progress.
