Switching gears back to the Nikko ...

I got my bearing in for my Axial servo so I got it mounted. Plenty of power and throw there. Holy crap that puts the stock stuff to shame. Then I moved on to wiring and in keeping with the cheapo theme, another HK ESC and RX.

I actually do not condone the use of these electronics but I had the RXs sitting around forever and for low power cars like this is going to be (lowly 2S) I think the ESC will be OK. If they burn up I will get some better quality stuff .... actually I would prefer to get actual Futaba RX's after some of the stories I have heard about these cheapo ones but that will have to wait until after scale nats when I can get ahead on bills.

Anyway, from the outside, it now looks like a normal Nikko on the top side.

The next thing to attend to was the battery area. Since this will be running a smaller 2S lipo I did some test fitting then decided to grind out some of the factory battery area and ... well the pictures probably speak for themselves...

Yep, more 3D printed parts.

The battery is a nice snug fit and it is now well protected. I think it also looks a little slicker not have a big fat 6 cell sticking out.

Back in RC10 land ....

Pulled apart an old "hot" motor I had and decided to give HH some money for a new 15x2 arm. I'm looking forward to it's arrival.

I finally got around to painting my body as well. I decided on a "busy" pattern because I feel like it fits the age well.

All in all I am happy with it. Still need to mount up original tires then do a bit more cleaning on it.

The rc10 looks sweet I had a body with the green version of the speckled paint way back in the day. The Nikko looks like it's going to be fun as well.

Found this out in the garage while searching for something else. This was the first rc I ever purchased and it was from a garage sale when I was 15. No clue where the transmitter is or if it got thrown out mistakenly. May have to update it with modern electronics.

Been a long time and I have some carnage to report on the Nikkostein.

I thought the control arms would be the new weak point ... but my niece (7 years old) actually drive it into a curb at full speed and rather than the control arm breaking the knuckle snapped in half.

Was funny to watch but WTF do I do for parts? ....

So, on a whim I ordered some Tamiya 0555028 uprights.

Will update as I get more progress but I think these could work as a work around replacement.

Nikkostein has been repaired but the Tamiya parts didn't work out.

The Nikko knuckles have a big rise to them and the Tamiya are flat. I should have noticed that but was rushing when ordering. So I busted out a spare parts rig I had and replaced it.

Probably a replacement knuckle out there but I just don't have time to look around enough.

So with that ... I drove it around plenty and am considering selling the Nikkostein to a new/loving owner. I had a great time building and improving it but I am moving and the less stuff I have going to the new place the better!

Now, if I can just get sgtsteve to finish his RC10...

Why he asks? Because there was RC before the Traxxas slash and people like to reclaim their childhood with vintage restores. Just like real cars. I shake my head at vintage VW enthusiast, but whatever it's not my money. I'll stick with 60's pony cars.

Someone could ask the same question about any of the nerdy-ness built on this site. I guess his childish hobby is better than yours.

Keep on Patrick, I'm loving this stuff.

Actually, I bought a Stealth trans from a member here who should have shipped it out yesterday. All I really have left to do is mount the electronics

Wondering if the Nikko was ever sold.

I modded some Nikko's myself with brushless motors and sealed bearings.

They work quite good.

Look what I found. Get em before they are gone forever. I've been waiting for 15 years to find a set of these like this.

Gotta say, I love it.
I had both the same F10 and boat that you revamped when I was a kid.
Those were the two that got me into Rc

Thumbs up!
