| My wife wants actual "craft glitter" in the paint
Ok, so..... The wife and I are building a Rubicon kit and she wants, no kidding, craft style glitter in the paint! I do not have an airbrush and I showed her the tiny glitter that can be added to paint but she is very adament that she wants real glitter in the paint! The only idea have have come up with so far is brushing the entire painted surface with "XXX Main" lexan picture glue and sprinkling the glitter on that before painting. Can anyone give me more ideas? The lexan glue is not available anywhere and I'll have to backorder it. Thanks in advance Red |

Uhhh, thats going to be difficult. Id try to convince her to use some Pactra with heavy metal flake. If not, just use some craft glitter spray paint on a scrap piece to make sure it doesnt melt the lexan. They have it with REALLY big and heavy glitter. My wife uses it often. The glitter is so thick and there's so much of it that you have to constantly shake the can while using or it clogs up or it'll spray just clear because the glitter is so heavy. Maybe try the glitter glue for shirts and crafts with a coat of Pactra backer?

Maybe spray the inside with lexan clear like Tamiya PS-55, sprinkle the glitter on that while its tacky, and then follow with the color of your choice. Test first on scrap lexan of course. I want to see how this comes out however you make it happen. |

I've painted several bodies like that. Shoot a little clear on them, then just dump the glitter in and shake it around a bunch to get a good coat, then paint a solid color to back it.

I could post a picture for you but some would consider it offensive and I would be ban for using sign anguage inappropriately!! LOL!!!! Kidding I am waiting on the lexan picture glue to arrive and I guess I'll order some clear too.....what Clear paint to I need to order and do I need to put a dusting of clear on first or a nice semi hefty amount before the glitter goes down? Thanks - Red |

Im working on a no joke, 1989, Lowrider Magazine, ghosted scallops, FULL lime green metal flake job for Nabil. In my career, I've painted my share of 1:1 lowriders so this ones gonna be fun. As far as the HOW for your wifes rig...exactly as Jason explained. I've done a TON of RC lids by spraying a nice wet coat of Faskoat, dumping whatever flake (usually House of Kolor automotive since thats what I have) onto the area & sifting it around. Dump the extra on to a piece of card stock or paper, take a blow gun at LOW pressure...like 5-10 psi & LIGHTLY blow the surface to A. Remove any hangers but more importantly, to lay the flake down a little. Then take your leftover flake & dump it back on covering any bare spots. Once your happy with coverage you can either back it with a matching color or seal it in with more Faskoat. I always make this my last step because that Faskoat is pretty gummy stuff & removing the mask sucks. Most glitters & flakes are inert so they should work fine with any type of clear coat. I'lldig thru my computer tmrw for some examples of flaked lids. JD |

OK, here was a "Fast first attempt" to get her to change her mind....back fired! I think it looks like poop but "she" loves it and now wants a "Glitter fade" from front to back.......sigh....... I used pearl white as a base and its only got one coat of silver backing the silver glitter....WHY LORD, WHY?!? http://i482.photobucket.com/albums/r...psdfe5cabc.jpg |

The first try I put down one coat of candy purple and threw the glitter on. The glitter sank through the paint and you couldnt see the color. The second try I put down one coat, let it dry, layed down a second coat, and then tossed the glitter on.Another coat of purple and backed it with silver. It looked a little less crappy. I might give it another try with some smaller glitter. | |

I've used clear spray then glitter on it in the past too. Mist with clear, dust with glitter and then mist again with color to seal it in. You can use all kinds of glitter too. Not just the tiny glitter, I've seen people use little stars or shamrocks before too.
