I've gotten rid of all my Rally stuff over the past year but the most realistic and best handling of all was the DRX-VE. !/8 scale and over your budget though.

Sooo,... to me the Rally Legends cars are super scale looking and offer a few retro body options. They take quite a bit of tinkering to get working well but I had two and enjoyed both. You can get a RTR for close to your budget.

Don't forget the Tamiya xv-o1 as a kit it is aprox $270 as some others will attest it is one of the best handling rally cars that is truly scale.

Absolutely agree, I had one of those also and it handled almost as well as the DRX-VE. By the time he made it RTR it would put him well over 300.00 also.

Considering the Tamiya 1/10 Impreza WRX Sti Team Arai XV-01 Kit over the pro rally, aside from the Pro kit having TRF shocks and not coming with a body, anything else?

The XV01 would be probably the best but on a budget, the Tamiya TT-02 is a good budget choice. It comes in a factory finished option for $179. Just add a Speed Passion Reventon S and Speed Passion 13.5T motor and an entry level radio system and you're running at just about $300. They also have some RTR versions for $299 but I've never liked the stock electronics.
