I am on the same page brother. The love carried me quite a ways but when a rig lets you down time and again and there is no fix...just band aids...it's over.

Find a rig that deserves that love and carry on

The love for crawling is still there and the Scx10 and losi comp crawler are getting me through. I'm thinking a pro class rig that actually lasts a full course is in my future. Will be keeping my eyes on the classifieds.

bite the bullet and get a set of the bully2 axles

I did see a berg v2 tracwe in ebay for a very reasonable price, but the bully2 are nice and there are
interesting things being made for them now that the initial fenzy has slowed

This is what happens when I get bored at work! Made up a 1 piece spur plate and shaft thingy to go with the metal gears I just ordered. I guess the RS10 will live on! Hopefully with this last upgrade it will hold together enough that I can pass this rig down to my son once I find a new one.

It may look ok in the photo but my machining skills are definately sub par, It runs a little out of round and the treaded holes are too close to the edge. If I get a chance revision two may turn out better. I won't be selling these for many reasons, the first being they aren't sale quality.

Did you need a special plate or they went (motors) right in ?

The motors went straight in, no adapter was required.

That's way better than what I am thinking about making. Nice work!

So I test fitted the one piece spool I made to the spur gear and realisd thet a machinist I ain't. Luckily I work with a guy who is a wizard on the lathe and he was happy to make me a couple of spools in his spare time.

Looks so much nicer than the piece I made and fits correctly and runs true to boot. With these and the metal gears I ordered I guess I'll find out what the next weakest part of the RS10 axle is. I'm guessing dog bones!
Unfortunately I'm stuck out here at work until early September so will have to wait to get the rig back on it's feet(wheels) again.

Someone really needs to produce something like these for sale! The rear axle plastic cap shredded the other day. The pin was in perfect condition, the plastic just gave out.

I would be interested in purchasing some as well if someone is going to get some made might be cheaper to get more made at once?

did you go with 3mm screws or keep the 2.5mm screws on the spur gear?
this is a lot beefier than the plate with a pin thing

i would certainly give your machinist buddy 2 cases of beer for each pair he made for me.

specially if you all are 'stuck out there for afew weeks. nice cold beers are nice to come home to.
of course i would have to contract 'someone' out there to purchase the beer and to ship the metal
back. sounds like another case plus postage.

all in the spirit of good fun

or i could just use the pair of znos i have in a box waiting their turn on the dirt.
so many projects
so little money

Here are the dimensions I used to make the spools, in case anyone wants to try making their own. just remember that I haven't had a chance to fit these into a gear case yet so there may be clearance issues with the other gears. All measurements are in metric millimeters as that imperial stuff just confuses me.

I haven't given spacing for holes as I just assembled it with the gear and marked the holes. I drilled and tapped for M3 to hold the spur gear and 2mm for the diff cup pins, but will probably drill to 2.5mm and use axial pins.

I wish they would allow us beer out here Cabron, would make a month at time away from love ones a lot more bearable.
