[QUOTE=pardonmyn00b;3613837]And yeah, I have to get on that FJ... and about a dozen other things still. I keep coming up with new projects! Damn my imagination. QUOTE]

I can relate to that. That Adirondack shelter killed me, took 3 months to get the dollhouse roofing & now it's here but I've started so many things in the mean time, it sits.... under a tarp.

p.s. I love that little light. Girraff is still my favorite though... I have a safari animal fetish.

Styrene roof and it's one piece so no leaks.

Varnish on the siding, paint on the roof. I need some paint for the trim. Doors and windows still needed of course.

Thumbs up Re: n00b builds a pole barn...and other things

That is almost too funny.
I got my roof on yesterday. Had a bunch of thin aluminum that I bought for the roof. I planned to mold vertical ribs in it to simulate a standing seam metal roof. Made a template today and tried doing what I had in mind.

Ugggg.... After ruining about 5 pieces of 20" long aluminum I gave up.
While sitting there contemplating a better plan I look to the left at my stack of 32 pieces of 12"x12" .060 styrene and decided a styrene roof was a simple solution. Thought about piecing together the 12x12's to cover the roof, but decided that Monday I would try to find bigger pieces to be able to do each side seamless instead of patch working each side together in 12x12 chunks.

I do need to thank you... I now have a confirmation that the idea of styrene to get it done results in a kick ass look . I only hope mine ends up looking 1/2 as good as yours.

Cool house Noob. The siding looks perfect. I saw titebond in the background. Is that what you are using or CA?

Can't wait to see what else happens to it... I could picture some little witch feet sticking out from under it like in Wizard of Oz. Don't know why... maybe because it looks like it just sort of landed in the grass and smushed a witch.

If you are like me & don't have Noob like skills to make all this stuff yourself, there is this:

Three Sheets of Bright Tin Roofing @ miniatures.com

They look pretty good.

Hadn't seen it before..... but it comes 14" long, and my roof is 19" on each side I don't think piecing it together on the length would look very good.

But there's always a next build....... thanks for the link
OK .... Enough of hi-jacking noob's thread..... Back to the build.
Sorry nOOb

I forgot to ask you. What did you use to bond the styrene to the wood?
I just used "Liquid Nails". It seems to be holding OK, but just wondering if it will end up being a good long term bond to the styrene.

Too funny! I originally wanted to do a real tin roof so it would rust. The only tin I had was too thick to rub on my siding molds though(the ones I used for the barn walls). So I opted for styrene, I'm better with the stuff anyway. It's seamless so there shouldn't be any leaks. I still might look for some thinner tin sheet. I love the charm of a weathered roof.

Thanks. I used the titebond that you saw. It said it's water resistant or something. Not for full blown marine stuff, but I think it will do. The joints are pretty tight and the coat of varnish should keep it sealed up.

I want to do a little scale garden around it, add a couple exterior details and some other dollhouse oriented things. I'll see what pops into my head when I go to the craft store next.

I didn't bond the styrene to the wood yet, but I was actually thinking of using liquid nails. I have some leftover from a previous project. I reckon it will hold just fine.

I used to spill solvent on a regular basis. Not a single accident since I stuck it in the foam.

Nice work on the windows & chimney! What did you use for them, styrene or wood?
