You know that wouldn't really fix any of your aggravations...it would reduce weight and that's about it. The locker and the massive trans case are the two largest problems I have with the Bully axles, but they're plenty strong

Its all just theory and a lot can/will change when I start putting parts on but my reasons right now are:

Getting the motor closest to the tire for better clearance to the ground, think offset diff.

The servo fits on the short side and thats it. To do a servo link mount combo is not what I want to do right now, I would rather have them separate.

I dont want the long side on the motor side because I want to run my servo behind the axle like 86Jeep style. The long side is so long that it will be pushing the Delrin tubes that much more durability wise and I really dont feel comfortable notching the tube, as I would have to do if it were on the motor side. Additionally, I would like to run my motor as far tucked in towards the axle for more clearance and dont want to deal with moving it to fit a servo.

I did mill the face of the motor mount. That will give me an extra .125 clearance but the short side is still close to .5 shorter than a long side Berg. Edit: I did just check a stock tube. Looks like they have the shock mount roughly .5 in from the C. It will be close but I think I will be ok?

I was going to drill the tubes so they can be placed on either side of the gear box. I still may but I figured I will try this first and see how it works out.

I am just going to keep it the same size as the HPI wheels that everybody uses. I dont know enough about supers do come up with my own ideas on stuff like that yet. Driving 53's car it seemed like his wheel/tire combo worked really well. It will be a good starting point for me.

I was worried that I would be losing steering with this setup. After getting the shafts and measuring I found that the difference from the Super 300's to a Bully shaft was not much at all. I measured about 3*.

I like your thinking, kind of....

Delrin seems like it would be pretty brittle to use as tubes on a super. I have seen them snap on 2.2's on a small fall.

Why not use the Highlander axles or Super 300's? Bullies are kind of brittle as well.

I use a single 7990 on each axle and I feel it's plenty enough.

I have had 3 sets of Berg Delrin tubes on Supers for a little while now with no failures yet.

Are you comparing apples to apples? What 2.2's did you see fail that have Delrin tubes?

Cost being huge, availability being another factor. I am also not 100% confident in their strength.

They were rear one's on Bully axles that 53 Willys offered in the past I believe.

From my understanding all of those failures were from a design flaw and they have not had any failures after the tubes were redesigned.

Yeah. Un drilled gears and stock locker, both of which will be dealt with later after the build is done. I have some small ideas and I am waiting for tooling.

Also, I need to take those knuckles and shafts and weigh them. I think that is where a majority of the weight is coming from. I thought it would weigh less but the weight from the knuckles are in a good spot and I dont know how much you could do about the shafts. You could go with the machined Bully knuckles if the weight bothered you in that spot.

Much effort spent to lighten the knuckles, just to add that small weight and much more < an inch lower as brass... seems like it might be chasing a merely theoretical advantage.

yep...I have never heard of any failures after the V2 bully delrin tubes..hootie had the V1's and his was the 1st break we beefed up the link mount section and it fixed the issue....

PLUS dlux delrin tubes dont have screw holes likr the 2.2 bully tubes...dlux will be running link mounts like his berg tubes I would think...making them even better then mine

I was able to get a couple more things done on this over the weekend.

I got the chassis all cut out and ready to go. Big thanks to 53 for designing this and doing the testing. As I told him, I always thought it was cool but to have your own makes it that much cooler. LOL

I got a weight on the chassis. Seems like its a decent weight. I would eventually like to get into carbon fiber and cut an ounce or two. Can anybody tell me how this weight would compare to an "average" chassis?
