| 2.2 Clod comp rig (non-scaler)
Hi guys, I've been looking for hours trying to find examples and ideas on how to make my clod fit into the 2.2 comp class. I currently run a gecko 2 chassis and that comes in with a 13.5" wheelbase. I've seen people make their clods within the 12.5" regulation, but they are more like scalers. I had the idea of shortening the links to get within the magic number, but am worried about losing articulation. My other option is to use a base chassis like an AX10 and then mod the links. Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated. Trukk |

I've been looking at some clod axles with the intention of 2.2 as well lately. In my searching, wheelbase is the least of your problems, it's getting the width down that causes the most trouble. In my experience less is more with articulation so if you lose some in the process of shortening the links, it'll probably be ok. I haven't heard of anyone running the gecko 2 for years. I dn't even remember what it looks like. You could always go with the hardware store torsion chassis. Setting the wheelbase on that type is insanely easy.

u mean torsion chassis like the "pimp cane" style? If so, i'm not so sure it would work as well with the shorter wheelbase. |

Yeah, like the pimp cane. Before something better came along they were competitive. I tend to lean towards a 4-link as well though.

You're partial correct on this. You gotta have some extra weight on the wheels or drill extra holes in the chassis. I ran a Jps pimp canes with drilled holes. It climbs great, but sometimes I get a "floater" on one the wheels and basicaly have to wiggle or back up a bit( a no-no in comps) to continue on the climb. Right now I have a sick build in the workings, about 90% done. It got a beetlejuice lowboy 3 chassis with a grizzy miniclod kit. I always been partial to the clod, since the heydays of the clodbuster phenomenon in the eighties. Hope that gives you an idea. Long line the clods! | |

isn't the lowboy 3 designed for superclass crawling? If so, doesn't that make your truck outside the 2.2 rules? I tried searching for the grizzly miniclod kit, but found nothing. What is it? |

Dont know if this helps or not but I did a 2.2 rig and kept it on the cheap side. Here are a couple of my links to my build threads. 2.2 Comp Clod (hopefully) And how I built some deeper offset wheels. New 100% 2.2 Wheels. Hope any of it helps |
