| diesel's 2.2 rock racer tuber.
a big box showed up in the mail today, and inside this box was one of the most beautiful things ive ever seen. Brian Phillips of southern CA built this for me and i must say, its some of the best tube work ive ever seen. i almost don't wanna paint it. its modeled after the 6 Shoota owned by 4-Locked Films, with a few personal touches thrown in. all the little gusset plates are drilled and tapped and the lexan panels will be attached with the little 2mm screws in the pics. today, after spending about 2hrs just staring at it, i started mocking up the suspension. got the lower links done and measured for the upper links. ill probably end up buying some delrin rod and making new lowers with revo ends on them but til then these are fine. it was built to use 4" shocks and sit nice and low, not sure what the belly clearance will be when its done but it's low. more stable at higher speeds that way, not to mention it looks mean. |

i got her up to roller status today. got a bunch of 5/16" delrin from mutiny22 here in vegas and some 8-32x3/4" set screws from The Real Dogman so that covered the materials since i already had lots of revo ends here in the garage. i used my badass little link drill bushing from JeepinDoug to drill the link material. that is one useful little tool, worth every penny! the front axle plate and rear axle truss that Del Monte made are awesome, the 4 links setup perfectly front and rear. right now its sitting a little tall at 2 3/4" GC ive gotta limit the shocks a little to get it sitting nice and low. thanks to all the guys i just mentioned, you kick ass! |

thanks! i just got done with its first test run. i have a new found respect for anyone who builds and runs tubers. setting up all the electronics in this thing was fun. ive got the esc mounted behind the tranny, the motor wires run under the tranny between the case and the motor then curve up to solder onto the motor. and the receiver is mounted up above that in the battery compartment. it'll do wheelies on asphalt and donuts on smooth concrete but it still crawls. i havent driven a shafty in over a year so its gonna take some getting used to but it'll be fun. rockracer- 1 Proline beadlocks- 0 |

Moab / Masher hybrids FTW. It's tough finding a bead lock that holds a tire at speed. I had to glue the tires to my Pro-Line Epic bead locks on my brushless slash. Sweet build though |

yep they're just what i had here at the house actually. after buying the tube frame i had to cut costs elsewhere.. (being unemployed sucks) im sure that my Mayhem Wicked Js will hold them. its just the one bead every time, one of the masher sides. if the mayhems don't hold it then ill throw some comp claws or something on it. yeah i have to just glue all my slash tires too. this thing only hits about 15-20mph though. and thanks. now that color should the frame get powdercoated and what color should the panels get painted? | |
