I am not much of a bug body fan, but the mix of the bug panels and the way you did your tubes, I must say VERY NICE JOB!!. I would love to own that rig. If you keep up the great work to the finish, it will definitely go down on my list of favorite all time crawlers.

That is lookin good! Im gonna keep my eye on this build, im sure it will turn out killer.

You might need a bit more tubework under the hood. One good nose-in will bend that front hoop.

One step ahead of you, Last night I started fabbin up the braces for the front end, plus shock towers, I should have them welded in tonight. I was playin around with a trans mount last night but didnt care for how it turned out so i cut it off and started on a different bracket. got the uppers for the 4 link welded in and just need cleaned up a bit. I also ordered a set of white losi springs too. Radio and Hitec high torque servo should be ariving today.

damn nat , you are really kickin azz with this build , i kinda liked it before , but my eyes really opened up when i saw the hood and door skins on the chassis , that is too much for words , you definatly get a 10 for origionality and style points

Default Gettin closer...

So I just about finished with the front end when my Oxy regulator on my torches came apart... Arrrr... So this is as far as i got. Oh i did get the trans mounted, kinda overkill i think but better than not enough...

I still have to hang the suspension, the shocks are going to clear nicely in the front but i am not sure where to set the ride height when i set it up. should the shocks be somewhat compressed or at full stroke? I keep hearin about 3" of GC but the steering servo is close to my front frame crossbrace. I hope I dont have to cut it off, I like how it looks, but function over fashion right? Im not sure if i mentioned before but this is my first build... itsdefinately a lot more challenging and involved than i would have guessed, but so far the result has been well worth he effort!

I got my radio today, its a futaba 3pm, well see how it performs!

thats it for now.

xoxo

That looks great! Your going to have one bombproof bug!

How do you want the suspension to act? Do you want all crawl or ability to speed up a bit too? If you want a full on crawl suspension I would suggest setting the shocks to be almost fully compressed at ride height (full droop setup). You can set it a bit lower and use fuel tubing on the shock shaft to increase the RH. Small springs are used internally to keep the shock compressed. Droop susp can take a lot of work to get dialed in. A high anti-squat will show up fast, and the vehicle will raise under power. Too little anti-squat and the susp wont want to let out and droop when the tires unload.

A bit better handling all around would be setting the the shocks up around mid stroke. Some compression, some extension, whatever you need. Springs on the outside keep the shock extended.

Hey Nat,
Good looking rig! I'm from Slidell, its nice to see another down south crawler!! Just a quick question, where you gonna wheel that thing in the Big Easy?? You gonna drive out to Picayune or Pearl River? Keep up the good work, can't wait to see more!

Since your servo is so close to the front section on the chassis, you might wanna look into the droop set up.

That is some realy fine Tube work
Realy ike De VW turned in a Tuber
I would say 2,5'' CG is enough 3'' can be better but you'll have to share all the weight and bring al the weight as low as possible
Keep up the good work!!!!
