Default Neat way to vent tires !!!

I'm sure this has been done before somewhere. But I just bought a star shaped hole punch from a craft store. And it works perfect for making vent holes in tires. No more odd shaped cuts from lexan scissors or dremel holes!

I tested it out on a brand new Panther Leopard tire I had sitting around.

Next I need to vent my VooDoo's

Thanks for reading!

I'd be worried about it tearing at the points, the same craft store should have a leather punch that will make various sized round holes that won't tear.

You could stick the soldering iron through it.

Oddly, I've never thought of doing that even though I do mine by heating a nail with my torch and pushing it through. Thanks.

That's scary! On most tires I don't see much issue.. as for the doo's, ouch.. I have seen a few posted that ripped an others that had small NICs an cuts from rock alone.. adding a deliberate catch an tear point in a thin side wall already is ballzzzy... vented wheels an foams in the only way I go. I haven't ever been a fan of holes in my tires..

I like to vent the outside of the tire in the center in the tread that way when you get sand in the tires from doing stuff like trying to flip you self back over after a rollover the tire naturally evacuates the debris. I have torn sidewalks that didn't have any holes in them already so I would stay away from making holes in them intentionally. Venting the closed cell inner would work as well but will trap sand.

I've been venting my sidewalls for years and have never had a tare. And you're right, the VooDoo sidewalls are pretty thin! I'll let you guys know how they hold up!

No holes in the tires, massive amounts of air exchange

Yepper, that's the way Matt! I use either some 1/4" CF tube or 1/4" brake line to poke the holes out. Nice clean cuts.

I found drilling to be not so good, after it peeled some of the closes cell away buy getting caught on the bit an not drilling a hole.

I vent my sidewalls.. Have never had a problem with them catching on anything. Never ripped a tire either. I guess lucky? Or the fact that I just don't allow the sidewalls to rub on anything (why would you?). Everyone has a different opinion on it.

I cant beleive how paranoid people are about putting holes in thier tires. If somehow i got a small tear a little tire glue will fix it. We have proven we can cut a tire in half and glue it back together. I started crawling in 2009 and always vinted my tires and never seen one tear.

I normally vent tires by putting a hole thru the tread..

But I currently run sealed BL's

holes in the side wall
would not allow moisture or other material any escape.

I also feel that holes in the sidewall
could lead to more sidewall flex in the area where the holes exist.

as far as snagging the hole on something...
could be dependent on what it's wheeled thru
as well... as sidewall thickness.
