I'm assuming that since no one has brought it up yet and the nature of the torch is similar to a plumbers propane torch that eye flash is not a problem with this type of torch.
Also I saw a Mapp/Oxy Specialty torch kit today for $40 would this work and would it be better than the straight Mapp?

You just need some cheap sunglasses. I have the mapp/oxy setup. The oxy bottles don't last long, can get a bit spendy at $6 a pop. I think a lot of guys are using a high silver rod, so straight MAPP would do that. If your using brass or steel rod, the oxy adds more heat.
