I'm still waiting for the end of the month to get my hot end. I plan to get the Budaschnozzle from Lulzbot, but I can't do much until I have one in my hands. Luckily they have all of their files online, so I modeled it up real quick during lunch. |

Curious about your 3d model- are you modeling every assembly in a different layer ( and color ) for clarity or are you assigning a color to each part? I'm very foggy with solidworks, I'm much more proficient in Inventor. |

| Re: C*H*U*D's 3D Printer The colors are random and really just for clarity. There are quite a few sub-assemblies in the overall assembly, but this model is actually pretty simple. I have it broken down into 4 major assemblies...the Frame, X-Axis, Y-Axis and Z-axis. After that it's just smaller assemblies inside of each depending on what they do.

FINALLY!!! I've been waiting for this to show up before posting again, and it finally got here! Opening boxes in my living room isn't the best idea. First, one cat has to inspect it: And of course Super Shop Cat Roxie has her own inspection criteria: So I gave up on that and brought it downstairs for a picture instead. I have to hand it to Lulzbot...nice piece. I'm very happy and can't wait to fire it up! Cost: $103 shipped. Last edited by C*H*U*D; 03-07-2014 at 06:51 AM. |

Wow that is impressive! Got to explain to the cat that it isn't a $126 chew toy Did some research on 3D printers online and I have to say that it somewhat is starting to make sense how a print head works. Best of luck on your machine... you never know what you may have come up with |

Any more progress? I've been watching this thread closely, it's full of great information. I've been eyeing some some RTR printers, I no longer have access to the equipment to make a DIY printer.

It's been awhile since I've had a chance to work on this, but I was able to make some progress. The X-Axis was a bit of a problem, since I wanted it as small as possible. I decided to just use the Lulzbot mount as the structural feature, and build onto it: The bottom bearing blocks, mount to the upper blocks: I'm really happy with the way it feels. Rock solid and very smooth. |
