Default Trx brushless systems

I've always been A lover of brushless over brushed so want to treat the 110 to a brushless setup but unsure what I need with it having a 550 motor.

I have already got a tekin gen 2 esc with a 17.5 motor would this be any good or do I need to look for something different

Cheers ian

I would look to the Castle Mamba X and a Slate motor. 2280kv would be similar to the stock motors speed on 2S and 3S, just a touch quicker. 2850kv would be faster if you want a bit more go juice.

If you put a 9t pinion in with a 17.5t motor, it would be adequate for most bashing purposes. But if you spend all your time crawling up and down rocks with steep inclines or do a lot of pulling, you might want something else like a 4 pole sensored

The Castle Mamba X will be great in this truck. The Auxiliary Wire and it's ability to toggle the drag brake on and off will be perfect for a truck like the TRX-4.

So far I've had a Castle MMP/bec in mine and always on 3S, but I've run a ROC 3100kv with stock gearing and loved it, Castle 7700kv on stock gearing and it was awesome, now its got a Hobbywing 4000kv with a 12t pinion ( also did 18/39 and got 44mph ) and it does really well. I'll soon have my final esc/motor ordered and that will be the Mamba X and the 3800kv. With that 3800kv motor and stock 11t pinion it will crawl awesome and still have plenty of pep in 1st and 2nd will be awesome for sand and general play. I may even try a 10t pinion who knows.

The AUX is to Change settings on the fly. I use it in my little Monster to Change between Rock crawler (forward/ instant Reverse) and Rock Racer Mode (forward/break/Reverse) with drag brake change. Race is set in mine up to 20% drag brake over 20 it's in crawler mode. Some are hooking it up to the Shift Channel. But that maybe need a signal reverser to work. Hope that helps.

I am also running a Mamba X in mine. But I paired it up with a Castle 1406 slate sensored brushless (2850kv) motor. In 1st gear, it has more power than you could ever need. Plus it is super smooth. In 2nd gear, it runs like a striped ape. I am using the aux wire to run rock racer mode. I tied it in with the shift servo channel (channel 3) and it works great. Didn't have to change anything with the radio. I also swapped the diff lock servos so the rear locks first. Seems to work better on the rocks, and it will run donuts like nobodies business with just the rear locked (main reason for the swap). Couldn't be happier with the setup.

Another Great set up is the Holmes Hobbies BLE pro ESC with a Torque Master pro motor. You can add waterproofing to both. The ESC is a modified Castle unit and uses the same Castle link for programming.
I have had nothing but great service from the Holmes people & products.

OK, I got my Mamba X and 1406-2280 installed yesterday with a 9t pinion and I can say from first hand experience now that it is a great match for this rig! There are faster setups but I have more interest in SLOW crawling. I love the ability to taylor the throttle and brake profiles. Be patient, Castle told me that they were expecting these to be back in stock by late October 2017.

What pinion gear do you use? I'm looking at getting the 2280kv motor as well since I already have a Holmes brushless ESC. And do you run it on 3s? I wouldn't mind a little more speed than the stock setup on 2s but I agree, it's more about slow crawling when needed. Thanks!

Maybe you can tell me how you mounted the ESC into your TRX-4. I have the same combo and was curious how others are mounting it. Thanks

Any one run the Quicrun 10BL60 yet in one of these or any truck?

Also is there a cheaper good, 4pole 2800ish motor option?
