| TRX-4 single speed conversion and spools
I saw that Traxxas released a bunch of TRX-4 option parts. I assumed (correctly for the most part) these parts were just going to be an assortment of colorful crap until I saw it: Single speed? Spool? Useful mechanical parts? Where are the green jerry cans and red anodized aluminum body posts? I'm still in a state of disbelief over this turn of events but I'll be all over that single speed setup. |

Spools and a single speed are cheaper than replacing garbage micro servos constantly. I might throw in the single speed and spool in the rear end and leave the front with the remote locker in mine. |

| Re: TRX-4 single speed conversion and spools Well it's not really taking any features away, just adding more options at this point. Say you don't use the front diff lock and only want the ability to toggle the rear, now you can just put a spool up front. Maybe you want the locking diffs but don't need the 2 speed, so you just convert to single speed. Someone could go nuts and use the axles in a 6x6 build and just spool them all with no diffs to mess with. In some cases there are people that have bad luck with the electronics and just don't want to deal with the micro servos in general, so they eventually just get rid of them.

I know i'll be spooling rear diff asap. I might keep the front diff optional for a while but will lock it too eventually.

I have owned my TRX4 essentially since they hit the shelves and in that time I found myself using the 2 speed less and less but the diff locks still get used frequently. It basically gets left in low gear these days and it drives much better. Out of the 3 trucks I own with 2 speeds, I find the different gears is really only useful on 1 of them.

I already have spools, they are amazing for my use. Competition crawling. Not only did I gain reliability and confidence in the truck lasting I shed quite a bit of weight up higher (those servos and mounts for the diff locks aren't super light). I do use the 2 speed on the TRX-4 truck, but I am finding I use it less which is why my TRX-4 Class 2 build went with only a one speed. My other TRX4 is a trail truck so I kept the 2 speed for some fun with it. To each their own, but these options are a step in the right direction to giving all users what they want. Not just the people who seem stuck on the initial "features" that not all people want or need. |

| Re: TRX-4 single speed conversion and spools There's a very viable rumour going around that they will be doing this. It's apparently going to include a 12turn(?!) and an XL5-HV. It's down near the bottom of this article from SEMA: https://traxxas.com/news/new-product/sema-preview It's a "Body Kit", whatever that means. There's more about in the article I linked above.. |

This is great news! I've been considering getting a 2nd TRX-4 with a gift card thats been burning a hole in my pocket and basically stripping down to basics though I may keep the 2 speed unless I go brushless. I'm curious to see a paired down TRX-4 with all of the inner fenders removed along with the locking diffs and the giant receiver box, use a lighter lexan body. I feel I could at least justify removing all of these parts to use as spares for my main TRX-4. Has anyone done a stripped down to basics TRX-4 build? I've seen a lot of people removing 1 or 2 of these items but i'm not sure if anyone's taken this to the extreme. EDIT: $39.99 for the hollow ball set, holy moly Last edited by HumboldtEF; 01-19-2018 at 12:50 PM. |

My Trail truck is currently pretty stripped down. Locked Diffs, Lexan Proline Ram 2 Door (all of the stock traxxas stuff gone). Still remains 2 speed though. |

I bought another one off of here last week, sold the body to rockhugger, so I 'm into it for less than $300. Only had 15 minutes run time on it. Ernie
