Default New TRX4 owner

Been kicking around getting one. Pulled trigger on a kit tonight.

Look forward to putting it together and learning about the platform.

I like building kits more than buying RTR's, so I picked up a kit from my LHS.
Check the fitment of the bearings into any metal gears. I broke a gear that wasn't machined properly by trying to press it in with a cross-slide vice.

Yeah, it was kind of an impulse buy and after I placed the order, I kinda second guessed shoulda ordered the Bronco - LOVE that body. No idea what kind of body I'll run. I've got a SCX10 G6, so don't want another Jeep, but I do really like Proline's Rubicon body. A lot of the bodies seem too narrow for my taste at least, can make a truck look like a roller skate.

Leaning toward maybe doing the SSD Portal Delete, spool the rear and leave the front unlockable. Eh, I'll wait til I get it in my hands and check it out first.

This hobby is an exercise in impulse control, especially when it concerns my handler (my wife).
The Vaterra K-5 Blazer is a great fit, and the wheel base is almost dead on. It's kind of thrown on with adapter I made for an SCX 10. Since this test run, I was able to lower the body a 1/2" and swapped the bumper brackets from front to rear and flipped them to get the front bumper up higher.

I agree. I have found it difficult to find bodies that fit correctly. Hoping more come down the pipeline.

Thanks, it's an early Vaterra Ascender body.

If you want one get it while you still can because they have sadly been discontinued by Vaterra.

Another vote for the Ascender K5 Blazer body on the TRX4. I was not aware that Vaterra had discontinued the K5, glad I have a spare unpainted one. With the use of the LURC Ascender conversion body mount they are a drop on fit.

Sadly, it's true. I saw the rumor on here and I reached out to Rich Trujillo and he confirmed it. He said there wasn't enough demand to satisfy the minimum order quantity required to get more bodies.

No kidding? I have to say that's the biggest problem I have with toy turcks, parts are not available for very long.

Looking good, Inspector86.
I looked at the LURC adapter you posted. The pre-drilled holes in my Blazer are almost an inch too far forward to line up with the TRX 4 posts. They're off-center by almost a 1/4" to the right as well.
Maybe since I ordered it unpainted, Vaterra's hole drilling guy said "F#ck it, send it."

Jato, Do you think the Horizon/Hobbico deal might change the availability of the K5 body in the future?

I don't think so. The K5 is being discontinued because the demand isn't there. I don't think the merger will increase demand, unfortunately.

Still haven’t cracked the bags on this kit yet. Can’t decide what body to run.....

Have got a Hobbywing 1080, Power HD servo, Traxxas spools, single speed kit, 9T pinion and link module on the way. I plan to spool the rear, but leave the front selectable for now, I think I may like that. I want to be able to change the diff locks with function, hence the link module. I should have a diff lock and speed control function “free”, not sure what I could use those for just yet.

I’ve got a set of Hyrax with CI Lil Nova foams on Axial 8-holes I could use (if the wheels will work. Also have a set of CI foams that should work with the stock tires, not sure which I’ll run. I may try the DIY beadlock mod on the factory wheels since they’re cheap enough it don’t make much sense to sell them. I will throw the stock servo and esx in the classifieds I guess.
