| pobrockcrawler's Ascender Build
Well it's official, I've gone and bought myself an RTR Ascender Bronco. I've been wanting another crawler for quite some time now and the Ascender seems like the best truck. Especially after reading through Natedog's thread and a quite a few others stating it out classes the scx10, I had to see what one could do with my own eyes Also seeing as my scx10 is getting quite old now (7 years I think it is) and the fact that it's got a hard body d90 on it now, I now see it as my baby and don't want to mess it up. So the idea with the Ascender is it will be what my scx10 used to be, lexan body, big 1.9 tires go anywhere truck. I will be making metal bumpers and sliders etc... Managed to find one quite cheap brand new (same price as a deadbolt over here), so I thought for a far superior kit I had to get it. Along with the kit I got a Castle BEC so I can run my 3S batteries on it without worry, Deans connectors and some Traxxas ends for if I fell like making longer links. Anyway I'm really excited for this and can't wait to make it my own, I literally ordered it a 20 minutes ago so pictures will follow in a few days time. Thanks guys Last edited by pobrockcrawler; 01-10-2016 at 05:45 AM. |

Those tires are good. Give em some time to get worked in. They stick well.

Here she is, arrived only but two hours ago and I've already started ripping into it hehe!! Already taken the electrics out to solder the BEC, put the new wheels and tyres on and stripped and greased the front axle Overall I must say this is very nice truck, from small details like cable holders to the masive steering angle and huge flex! I can see myself liking this truck a lot Cannot believe this huge steering angle Massive flex, love how the rear tyres tuck well up into the wheel arch First mod, changed out that 'ball bolt' thing to a separate ball and bolt. Thought the og idea could pop off... Front axle greased up Thanks for looking Also a question for people running baterry packs 3000MAH and above, where are you putting them? They don't fit in the floating battery tray which I did know about by the way. I think I might have to make a mount to fit behind the front shock towers but making it so the tyres clear under full lock and max flex is going to be tricky with the short wheelbase configuration.... Hmmmm |

Got the BEC soldered in and everything works. Made up my own steering links to eliminate some play that the stock set up has. Swapped out to a deans connector New links, 4mm all thread sleved in aluminium tube. Used the new large traxxas rod ends as they accommodate a 4mm thread I did manage to rest my stick pack sized 3s battery in her so I could drive it and realised I'm far to accustomed to my scx10 with a big powerful servo and metal steering components. But for a stock rig for so little money you can't complain. Another thing is the amount of torque twist it has, it's quite funny actually!! I can see a sway bar mod in the near future. Anyway I'm extremely pleased with it and can definitely see big potential. I have no problem dumping some cash into it that's for sure!! Thanks for looking |

I've had zero problems with the steering ball stud that you replaced. Glad the using the sweet stock battery tray. Love the tire tuck too.

Got a couple updates New servo way overkill but the steering is very much how I like it. Got an aluminium servo horn as well. 2200 3s lipo. Only problem is it won't balance charge, gonna head to my hooby shop in the week and see what the deal is. Don't want to charge it without balancing as we all know that could potentially lead to bad things happening... Size comparison to a 3200 3s lipo Dropped the body down 3-4 holes and put the axial falkens on just out of pure boredom I will have an RPP Hobby order coming in next week and once I sort this battery issue out I think a new body will be in the works Anyway thanks for looking Last edited by pobrockcrawler; 01-12-2016 at 10:45 AM. |

Great little rig! I prefer the Falken tires, so your boredom was beneficial |

Performance on 3S is lots of fun with mine running all stock RTR electronics. I get 3-4 hours out of 4400mah battery, so 2200 should get an hour easily although the servo your running will shorten that time a little. |
