| Transmission Slipping
Took the K10 wheeling yesterday. The front end would only engage intermittently. I checked the set screw on the front driveshaft and it is fine. If I hold the front tires and turn the back ones by hand I feel the gears skipping in the transmission. I haven't torn the trans down yet. What are my options? Any upgrades? Thanks John |

If the front is sometimes working and other times not, and you know it's NOT the grub, I'd be suspect of the front diff. A stripped trans gear would be showing up on both axles. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk |

Thanks Ryan! I think I should have posted more detail. If I hold the front tires and turn the rear tires I feel gears slipping and the front driveshaft does not turn. I feel like this rules out the front differential. I honestly have not looked at an exploded diagram of the transmission so I'm not sure what all is in there. I'm fairly new to the hobby! Thanks John |

Well here's the exploded view of the trans. Reason I'm still suspect of diff or grub is the output shaft is a solid piece that's locked into the bottom gear by fit. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk |

Thanks Guys!! I will reset the grub and make sure its on the flat spot. I only loosened it and then retightened earlier. Ryan…...I see now why you are sure its not the transmission! That is good news to me. I appreciate you finding the diagram. I did a quick search on the net and came up with nothing! I will check the grub tomorrow!! Thanks John |

You need to loctite the grub screw. Tightening it will only work for while. Use blue loctite so you can loosen it off when doing any repairs or maintenance.

Add to this. This problem is why I started drilling out the outputs on my Ascenders. I have small milling machine and used a 2.5mm end mill bit to drill through. An axial AXA0175 screw pin fits perfectly in the Junfac drivshafts I use. Now Vaterra have started using my idea on the new Suburban (that's my claim to fame anyway lol). Probably untrue as Vaterra never asked me. |
