Questions for Gun Control Advocates

Wrong, guns are not intended for killing people. They are intended for hunting, target practice, sporting clays, trap etc. There are guns made specifically for self defense, but not for offense. You don't know what you are talking about.... Liberals

That is some funny shit.

Last I walked by there, Walmart still sold guns. Both of my local ones do.

Yes, buying retail is not a quick and easy process. But buying privately is, and you can buy privately at a gun show if someone there is selling privately. Some states do not allow that, most do. I've got a co-worker that is a gun collector and buys and sells all the time. It's not unusual for him to go to a show and return with at least one or two new toys for us to check out. Personally, I haven't been to a gun show in a long time.

I haven't been in a WM in ages, but they claimed to have stopped selling guns so I assumed. Point still stands.

Apparently you missed post 91.

I only go to WM when I have to.

Didn't miss it. Laws regarding who can and cannot sell at gun shows varies from state to state. In some you must be licensed in some form or another, in others you don't. For those that don't, anyone can reserve booth space and haul stuff in for private sale, and you only need a FFL if you buy and sell on a regular basis (acting as a business).

My bad, I missed that one.

It's ok, everyone slows down in their older age.

Since those sales require no paperwork whatsoever, you're 99% guesstimate is completely unfounded. If I were to say it was 1%, it would be equally correct.

My point of contention with what you said earlier was that the Gun Show Loophole is a myth. Since the GHL is buying firearms at a gun show without a background check, it's not a myth.

Except, my "guesstimate" is based on actual experience.

How many gun shows have you attended since Bathouse Barry has occupied the White House?

As a regular gun show attendee, I see the sales that take place, as they happen frequently and right in front of you. For the dozens upon dozens of (100s at the larger shows) dealers you'll see 1-2 dozen (several dozen at the larger shows)individuals trying to sell individual firearms..

From my experience much of those are usually overpriced or lesser quality, less desirable firearms and are insignificant compared to the sales totals of the dealers.

The Gun Show Loophole is a myth!

All dealer sales require a 4473 background check.

C&R sales require a C&R license.

Private sales are just that, private. They do not require a gun show to take place. The fact that they may take place there is meaningless.

I don't sell many of my firearms, but every one I've sold has been on the local gun trader FB page.

A gun show sale is IMO a last ditch, go for broke, Hail Mary.

Anti's try to make this out to be some kind of magic evil exemption that we gun owners are using to sell bazookas to 10 year old kids.

Private sales are just that, private. They do not require a gun show to take place. The fact that they may take place there is meaningless.

So now the general consensus is if nobody could buy a gun privately, only through a dealer, and the terrorists would leave. OK.

I am just glad that you can only buy Cocaine, Heroin, and Meth from authorized dealers. You know because buying them from a private party would be illegal, and thats why it never happens. Because laws and stuff.

I haven't been to a gun show in over a decade. Just not terribly interested anymore.

My co-worker walks into local gun shows and walks out with privately sold rifles and handguns. Not sure what he pays for them, but he usually picks up something nice. Firearms from out of town dealers get sent to a local FFL shop and he picks them up there.

You haven't seen it happen, I personally know someone that does it frequently. We live in different places. You figure it out.

Yeah you did miss it. The part where I mentioned how private sales or CL sales were a different story than gun shows.

If you think there are masses of private sales of modern firearms going on at gun shows then that shows your lack of actual physical experiences regarding the subject.

Like I said I can't personally speak for every other state, but I'd be willing to bet you a Franklin that private sales at gun shows nationally are far less than 10%.

And before you grabbing at that less than 10% being the reason for all gun crimes in the country I would encourage you to pause and think about how idiotic that actually sounds.

Gun shows are no more the problem than guns themselves.

Again, private sales at gun shows are insignificant.

Every firearm I have purchased from out of state, private or dealer has had to go through a FFL and I am required to pass a 4473 before I can take it home.

I have it all figured out here.

I don't know what the percentage is, nobody does, nor could accurately guess since that avenue is unregulated.

And no, it's not THE reason, but it is a fairly easy way for someone who would not pass a background check to pick something up, so it is A reason.

Again, there are no figures to support that claimed insignificance.

Yes, out of state purchases must go through a FFL. I misspoke a bit and was referring to out of state dealers at a AR gun show.

"Chicago is seen as having some of the most restrictive gun ordinances in the country. Gun shops are banned, and no civilian gun ranges exist. There is a ban on both assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. But more than 15,000 of the guns traced by the police came from just outside the city limits in Cook County and in neighboring towns that permit gun stores."

States with the most guns
recovered in Chicago
Illinois 22,051
Indiana 7,747
Mississippi 4,296
Wisconsin 1,647
Kentucky 1,226
Ohio 1,121
Tennessee 1,090
Alabama 1,070

It seems your mind is made up.

The "gun show loophole" is real and this how terrorist and criminals get their firearms.

The only way to stop it is to outlaw guns.

It has a history of working so well. I mean look at the success of prohibition and the war on drugs.

You really want to see an explosion of gun violence, outlaw guns and let criminals be in charge of their availability.

Peace be with you.

No sh!t?

Thank you Capt Obvious.

See my previous post and then remember that Chicago is #2 in murders!

Only behind LA. Both bastions of gun control.

But they only kill each other. There are no accidental child shootings, drunks shooting others or pissed off husbands killing their wives so that's perfectly ok.

It is a purposely misleading phrase. Buying from a private seller at a gun show is no different from buying from a private seller outside of a gun show. There aren't tables and table of privately sold guns at gun shows. There is no gun show loophole. Buying and selling private property isn't a loophole.

At any rate, privately sold guns account for pretty much zero mass murders. These guys buy guns from dealers and pass background checks, almost without fail.

So somebody breaks the law and buys a gun they should not have. And because of that law abiding gun owners should not be able to own guns.

And because of drunk drivers, nobody should be allowed to own cars.

The most important thing I said in post 108 was apparently missed, and really negates the debate.

I responded to the gun show topic because I have personal experience whereas most folks have never been to one. You think it's a problem and I don't, end of discussion on that topic.

Private sales are private sales and there's not anything anyone can do about that, nor should they.

Blaming private sales is still trying to blame the gun ultimately. You think that being able to buy a firearm with the serial number filed off is going to stop with more laws/regulation?

No its a liberal blaming others for their problems. I bet if they just raised the gas tax by $3 a gallon it would fix everything.

To fuel the fire and for my own personal enjoyment.. from the homeland security pamphlet on how to respond with an active shooter: "• As a last resort, attempt to take the active shooter down. When the shooter is at close range and you cannot flee, your chance of survival is much greater if you try to incapacitate him/her."

So basically, you can't have any firearms but you must act as a sacrificial soft target with a handful of rocks "thumbsup"
