No pics...just a story.
My first kit build was an Ascender K5 Blazer some years ago now that I built for my crazy redneck GF. Good choice, of course, as that poor rig is now on its third body and has suffered immeasurably in the hands of a devil-may-care adventurous female as she learned how to drive. If you've watched any of my YouTube videos you've seen one of her more epic disasters.
Anyway...one of our favorite trails passes under a highway bridge along the river. The steep, dusty bank from the trail to the underside of the bridge has been her personal metric for measuring her skills and the abilities of her truck as I've upgraded and tweaked it.
This past weekend she finally made it all the way to the top of the bank just under the highway, and then made two fatal errors in judgement:
1. She tried to turn around
2. She stopped mid-turn
Proving that gravity and physics do in fact still function properly, her nauseating pink truck took the tumble of its life, sickeningly accelerating to something near terminal velocity with brief flashes of newly free parts on the way down.
Top it off with her miscalculating its vector as it bounced past her, across the trail and straight into, and to the bottom of, said river. To her credit, shoes and socks went flying without hesitation as she went into the river after her beloved Ascender.
Here's the good part...after all that carnage, and her fishing it back to terra firma, it had a broken rear lower link. That's it. I pulled it off so it wouldn't drag and she drove it back to the car. Replaced the link last night, and you'd never know anything had happened to it.
Try THAT with an Axial! "thumbsup"
