anyone break anything on the gen8 yet

Noticed my first breakage today. Left rear shock shaft is bent. Looks like time for shock upgrade now.

I broke one of those last winter. I use the treal inner brass portal cover with the steering arm.

Also a follow up on my stock cvd mod and even on a 9lb 6x6 I have not broken any more cvd portal gears.

Ya the steering arm is a week point for sure im going with the redcat aluminum set and am making some brass halfround hangers for all 4 corners i dont want to add to much weight and i dont want to through the ballance off to much

Thats great your mod is working that for the stock shafts right not the new style

Yes I modified the stock shafts after I broke 2 of the redcat chromoly ones.

the stock servo finaly let go of its smoke that poor little servo held its own on 2.2s for a year now im not all that sure it was the servos fault though i just put some rcaidong portal housings and some brass half weights on and i might have over torqued the links and king pins oh well good exscuse to get a new servo

if any one is interested in the rcaidong parts to be nice ill say the parts are ruff the worst part is they put the hole in the steering arm right against the edge so theres no meat around it the plus side is the outer cover is the same as the plastic covers so when i replace these with the ssd parts i can use the aluminum covers on those

Sheared the rear inner portal box in half, was about 15 min. After i got the truck going. Very light crawling too, lots of pinholes in the platic where it broke. Redcat warrantied it though. Been running a set of the gen 7 conversion axles for months, through hell and back and never had the same problem. Still loving this truck.

Servo went out on mine, looked like it had an oil leak lol iv broke front passenger axles as well but nothing else and I abuse the mess out of mine

Broke my 3rd rear portal, same side too. First one broke in half (posted pic) redcat sent me the pair under warranty. Swapped it out, that one sheared the shock tab off. Replaced it again and today it blew itself apart. Aluminum set shows up tommorow.

Has anyone had any issue breaking the aluminum portal replacements?

The aluminum are good. The upgraded Axe axles also fix the issue.

Im really not sure what the hell it is. I've had these axles (from the gen 7 conversion kit) on 3 different rigs (same set) They've endured 12lb rig weight, 6" tall jconcepts scorpios with up to 6oz ea. of wheel weights, and a trailmaster 12t on 3s, without any breakeage besides a front shaft and that was my fault for driving off my porch stairs.
Now with a 8lb or so truck, with small and not very grippy tires, on a much weaker motor (first 2 still had stock motor, last one was with a 13t crawlmaster 540 i threw in waiting for my CM 12t 550)

Luckily my aluminum replacements showed up tonight.

i think they had a big batch of bad plastic or something

Is anyone reporting the same issues with the Axe platform? I just bought a roller and have started building on it. (Relative term) More like adding my existing electronics, and etc at the moment. :)

it sounds like there working out the bugs

im guessing the axe got all the upgraded goodies but im guessing the portal gears will still be a issue till some one comes up with something stronger till then keep a extra.set on hand and enjoy your rig

The Axe has the stronger HD portal gears & shafts. They seem to be holding up well.
