4PK Setups, Tips, Tricks and Help

Hi Harley,

Yeah, definately lovin the new radio!

Harley just wanted to ask you a quick question... I just got dual FXR Pros for my Bully setup, I wired the electronics as per your diagram but I had two quick questions...

1) Battery + goes to the RED wire of the battery itself right? I always get confused...
2) Can I just turn this setup on without having to set the ESCs individually? Turn on with escs, servos all plugged in then set everything?

Thanks in advance and sorry about the basic questions "thumbsup"
Mike

The FXR's have B+ and B-. Positive (red) to positive, and black (-) to black. Nothing too special there.

I don't understand what you mean by set the ESC's individually though.

All I can say is WOW and THANKS! I got a 3PM like 2+ years ago and with my new MOA and scaler I've been on the fence about weither to buy the 3PM MX or a 4PK.
I'm running my 3PM 3rd channel like a 3 postion switch using con 2 for the dig computer on my MOA and mixing channels 1 and 3 for 4WS on another rig, but it would be great to have a 4th channel on the scaler.
After reading this thread the 4PK is what I need.

Anyway thanks again the amount of info you put in this thread is awesome.

Hi Harley, thanks a million  always seem to get the basics mixed up, also didnt want to trash two escs... got the individual setup part figured out. I was originally asking if I needed to set up each esc individually before I wired them together and put power thru them "thumbsup" Thanks again!!!

Great info, Great sales man, even better product, futaba better be taking care of you big time. Loving the 4pk, followed your step by step with no issues, Now if you could use your awesomeness to make the rain go away so I can drive my new bully it would be awesome.

Thanks

I'll trade you the rain for our freezing weather here  I think my crawling is done for the year, except for the little guys!

Ok so when you set it up with 2 esc's you set 1 switch up to turn on and off pre mix 1 in "alt" and 2nd switch to turn on and off pre mix 2 in the "alt" position. So when you push it it turns it on then when you push it again it turns it off as set-up like you use. But if you leave the switchs in the "Nor" position you have to hold them down to activate that channel and when you let off it is deactivaded. And what I would like is that it is in 4wheel drive all the time hence 3 and 4 channel on all the time and then when you hold down the button it would open the signal the that channel instead of closing it. So you could hold the button when you want dig (open) and then let off and it automatically closes the channel again. Does that make sense hopefully?:?
Thanks

Harley
I was just following up if you ever found out an answer to my question. Thanks8)

Do you know of any micro RX that work with this radio?

Or heard anything of maybe getting one?

I don't really want to have to use a losi radio in the micro crawler.

Even 2 or 3 channel would be fine, come to think of it, a tiny one would work well in most crawlers, we don't need much range.

A micro RX is not available yet. I know that one has been suggest directly to Futaba Japan. I suggest them EVERY SINGLE MONTH in my driver race reports. I will get one made!

Good, it's a luxury for using it in a comp or scaler build.

But I really would rather not have to buy a spectrum radio just to use in a micro, that would be silly.

I will though if I have to....

Did you know that the Traxxas 2.4, 5 channel Rx is smaller than the Futaba 604 Rx?

Keep hounding them Josh, I have faith in you "thumbsup"

I don't know how many of you have seen this in my most recent build, but I went a little crazy with a 604 in my AX-10 "show truck" build. Here is a link to the build: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=210123

Attacking the RX

In an attempt to not leave any part of this truck simple and stock I decided to attack the Futaba RX. The Futaba's RXs are larger than some of the other companies out there but since they are the best it isn't like I would ever want to change for that simple fact. Instead I decided to modify the RX for this build to make it smaller. NOTE that this is definitely not Futaba recommended or approved, it will also effect range.

I started off by disassembling the RX. The two antennas plug into the curcuit board. One antenna is internal and one is external. I did 4 range test using my friend Aaron's Berg, both antennas, just external, just internal, none. Honestly I didn't have any range issues at the distance I was concerned about with any of the configurations, so NO anteannas it is! If I notice that I need one later I will plug the external in and coil it in the case.

So I decided to desolder the internal antenna mount and take it out of the case. The step up on the Futaba RX's is to accomodate that antenna, so it is no longer needed now.

After removing that I sanded the entire case smooth so that there were no lips, then I filled the hole with styrene and used body filler to smooth it all out. I used the Cow RC Moo-tor cleaner and degreaser to get all the residue from the sticker and sanding dust off. Worked really well and it didn't take me any paint prep time then. It didn't have any effect on the CA glue or anything either.

Lastly I shot some primer on it, most likely the RX will just get a simple coat of a subtle color.

Alright So I"m running a Berg with

2x Tekin rs pro
2x JP warrior r/t
JR 8711
Thunder Power 1350 3cell

And my problem is when I use the dig I find it doesn't hold thetires very well. The rear tires seem to roll way to easily. Yes the drag brake is set to max. Is there anything in the radio settings I can change to get a better drag brake?
