chevy prerunner/trophy truck build

what motor and pinion are you running? I had a 15turn Dynamite (out of a twin hammers) and 20T pinion in my creeper trasn and was pretty happy with the speed on 3s. if you are brushless i would look for like a 2200KV and the same 20T pinion.

I am using a 12 turn 26 tooth pinion gear. The venom crawler transmission may be way slower. I'm using a tenergy 4200mah 7.2 volt nimh battery. Between the battery and the transmission there could be a big difference between speeds.

it's your battery for one and the creeper is the venom crawler so same trans you have there.

How did you get a 26t in there, i couldn't get a 25t in without hacking the housing up.

Next, your pinion might be too tall for the 12turn motor, that motor might be fast but it has
far less torque and it might not be getting up too speed.

Check the motor temp after running for a while, if it is extreme you are pushing it too hard.
Back it down to a 20tooth and you may see a improvement in speed, bump up to a 2s and I
know you will see a difference. 3s would be great but you would be back to pushing that
motor pretty hard and might burn it up.

How fast are you talking that yours go? In mph? I cut the plastic to fit it in there the motor is bolted into the metal head pad the red part in a picture I posted previously. And then the metal screws into the transmission. Idk it works for me. The motor isn't getting hot so I guess it's the battery. Wich would I get better speed out Of a slash transmission or a 2s batter?

I can't speak for a slash trans, the creeper is fairly close to the axial transmissions as far as final drive gear ratio.

MPH?? no idea, but it could out run a hyper 6 year old on a dead run.............fast enough to jump and clear ditches.

The other aspect/detail is that your truck is probay retry light. But with all the metal on my truck makes it heavy so top speed could be affected. Your saying the gear being to big may change top speed. But that just means it will take longer to get to top speed. Once it gets going it will get there after a while.

My truck is easily 23 Lbs, if not more.

try the battery up grade, there i no doubt in anyones mind that going form Nimh to Lipo will result in more power and speed.

We'll I gave her a little face lift. Steering wasn't doing it.

I moved the servo.

And new links.

Took a little video oh it driving in the drive way but it won't let me put it directly from here. So when I finish it I'll put on YouTube and make a link. All I have left is now I need to make a new front skid plate. With the servo there i had to trash old idea and will have to make a new one. I'm so excited. She is running now and I'm excited. Gonna charge the battery and see how she works tomorrow. I'll post some pics tomorrow maybe action! ;)

I'm waiting for someone to be able to video for me. But here are some pics.

Here is without the body all the electronics tucked away.

If I get that video I'll post it up for y'all. I'm excited to officially drive her first time with body and steering

Looking forward to see how that thing works and how long it lasts. That fab work is scary. Props to building something I guess.

It's pretty slow so I think when I get my next paycheck I'm gonna order a lipo battery. The motor hasn't gotten hot so it's been good. Should I use 2s or 3s?? Is there any thing I need to make sure I am looking for when I get the battery? What do I need to look for?

That other battery is pretty old I guess it's not very high output. Do I need a higher voltage then 7.2?

A 2S LiPo is 7.4V. A 3S is 11.1V.

Make sure your charger is Lipo compatible but I strongly suggest you figure out your gear ratios or else you'll be puffing lipos left and right. Also, check out your ESC if it even has a Lipo cutoff and can handle a Lipo.

The MAH rating doesn't mean anything other than running time. You need a high burst rating ( C rating)

What do you mean figure out my gear ratio? And thanks I will do that.

When you go from a weak NiMH battery pack to a Lipo, your truck will drive completely different.

You might have to buy an assortment of pinions and spur gears to get the gear ratios correct so you don't puff your lipos or worse... Blow them up.

So your saying it might get to hot by over loading the battery? Would it be more benifital to get a slash transmission?

So do you have the same Ecs as me? Would a lipo battery work on it or will I have to get a charger and a battery and an Ecs?
