My wheels are on a diet too. Trying some new ideas similar to you. I have heavy wheels with Rovers and another set of Light wheels with Panthers. Really liking the light set up but wondering how the Rovers do with no weight. The Panthers do great but seem too short to me now :?.

Anything negative about the rovers you noticed with the light set up?

You just have to be more attentive on the descents. Front dig and ready to hit the throttle to keep the rear from coming over. A very small learning curve as I compete in 1.9's too and that is a common issue for me with the little Losi's. I put these together with the intention of just messing around, not competing. I don't even have an ideal foam setup. I just threw them togther. But when I tested them last Wed before WCC I knew I would run them. I made climbs with ease that I could not even come close to before. I went from 3/16" to 5/16" limiters in the shocks to keep the ride height at 3-5/8". Trsck width is about 10-1/4" now. My next batch will have a better foam setup to improve side hilling which is currently an 8 out of 10 right now. But I was able to complete all the side hill gates without issue at WCC, I just needed to approach them a little more careful than others.

Was your foam too soft or too stiff? I have noticed with a really hard foam and light wheels, the tires want to slide down the sidehills. (Although they are really steep sidehills)

Obviously too soft and they roll over. But you can definitely run a much softer foam with a much lighter wheel setup

I agree. They are soft, I just want to try firming up the side walls a little. I have almost 3 full wraps of weights in the front which make them look like those new Mayhem wheels. I used a stock Rock claw foam in the front and 1/2 claw + full comp claw memory in the rear. It was all I had but ended up working great.

dpd, did you glue some hex's in the hpi wheels??????????????

No, after a month of hard driving they are just now starting to slip a little. Chino said I could CA the aluminum hexes in and when I later wanted to remove them take a heat gun to them and they should come back out. But really my tires are pretty shot anyway so I'll probably just throw on my new set soon. Doug put a 1/8" slice of copper tube over the his which helps it clamp onto the hex. I may take a trip to the hardware store tomorrow and try that too.

3/4" copper water pipe pressed over the wheel's hex hub. Keeps the hex's hub from splitting and squeezes the hex a bit for a really nice fit.
The tough part is slicing the copper off in nice clean 1/8" long pieces. It helps to bevel the inside corner on one side to help it over the hub.

Sorry Dave, the 3/4" water pipe isn't right, pipe is measured by the ID.

I'm using tubing that is 3/4" OD by .035" wall. Probably could be found thru McMaster-Carr.

Thanks to JeepinDoug I have some knew goodies. "thumbsup"

Because of the variances in Berg tolerances, I had to shave a bit off with the grinder therefore ruining Doug's nice machine finish. But you won't see it anyway.

These new lockouts look like they are factory. I like how the blunt end flows into the knuckle. "thumbsup"

I destroyed some VP knuckles recently.

You will notice that they sit a little tighter towards the C. Even though it was a very small amount, it bothered me that my track width in the rear was slightly wider than the front.

Here's the copper tube on the wheels Doug was talking about. Two of my wheels were starting to slip in the hex when bound up and this completely fixed that problem. "thumbsup"

you could have taken care of that track width problem with about 5 1/2 dollars worth of plastic hex's...... LOL

been running them for a long time now......

I won these and they are exactly like the front. Plus, you won't catch me with any cheap ass plastic on my rig.

Hey Dave can ROCKAD borrow your camera!:-P:-P

LOL I have some axles that I might need to send to you for your little pin treatment.:twisted:"thumbsup"

No problem, send me a PM. Takes less than 5 minutes. The funny thing is, I still have not broken one since I added those replacement pins and VP knuckles.

dave , i'll borrow your camera when you teach pee-wee how to spell :oops:

No kidding, I could draw better with a crayon. 8)

My cammera is just a cheap little Cannon Powershot. I'm pretty happy with it though. "thumbsup"
