Dudley Deadbolt's Adventure Thread by T-money

Hittin the trails again. This time out we were a little low on day light and time so we hit up a trail that we were familiar with, Lake Marry

Lake Marry is a small lake at the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon, one of the local canyons here on the Wasatch front (Salt Lake City)
The trail is 1 mile in, so 2 miles round trip.

Lake marry is one of the lake on the Briton Lakes Trail. About 2/3 of a mile up the trail the trail forks. The fork on the right (north) takes you to the north side of Lake Marry then goes on to Twin Lake and then on to Lake Cathrine. The fork on the left (south) takes you to the south side of Lake Marry then on to Lake Cathrine and Lake Martha, basically making a big loop. As I posted the first time we were up here, I'd like to do the whole loop but would require a day trip to do so. Maybe in the near future. Last time our adventure took us to the right to the north side of the lake, so this time we went left so the south side of the lake.

This trip was not without incident. About a 1/4 mile from the lake Dudley took a nasty tumble and damaged the servo gears. Luckily I had a spare (you might say I saw this break coming). Dudley rallied through and we limped our way up to the lake for a better wrenching location. Do to limping the steering, Dudley wasn't able to play on many of the obstacles along the trail, we were just concerned with making to the lake. After we made it to the lake we took a moment to soak in Mother Nature and watch the sunset, then a quick fix to prep Dudley for the return trip to the parking lot.

Pic to share our adventure "thumbsup"

I'm absolutely LOVING this thread and Dudley's progress/reports! Subscribed,with great interest "thumbsup"

Been thinking HARD about buying a new rig soon (maybe to build into a Cherokee, using Proline's body, like I would build my 1:1 Cherokee if budget allowed),the SCX10 DB is quickly moving to the top of my short list :)

Another nicely done Deadbolt thread! This is exactly what i'm considering for the wife. She prefers driving my scx10 to the AX10 i bought her.

Keep it simple and upgrade and breakage!

nice man. you sure are getting out a lot. id be out as we speak but im still making a new one to replace the one the little cottonwood creek took away from me. I think caterac is the best place you've posted pics of so far imo.

but have you done the whitepine or redpine trails up llc? I had a blast on those but there longer trails. 3-5miles each way.

Your locations are killer you are lucked to live in that part of the world. Great pics.

x2 "thumbsup"

Any side view pics with body on....suspension fully compressed and full droop?

Thanks for the compliments guys. I've been focusing this thread on the adventure and enjoyment you can have with a basic rig rather than on what fancy parts you can put on the car. It's been very enjoyable and the locations make for a very rewarding experience to say the least.

Not yet but I plan to in the near future. I've looked up info on the Pine Trails and they look like a perfect fit for Dudley's adventure "thumbsup"

You're very welcome,my friend, and that's exactly why it's so interesting to follow along,it's refreshing, especially since there's a bazillion of those threads ("...what fancy parts you can put on the car...") "thumbsup"

As requested

Full extension.

And full compression.

Thanks, how are you liking the single stage springs vs the two stage setup on other SCX and what color are the single springs rated?

ive been following this and I didn't see the part where he replaced the servo? im blind I guess! but I do know the stock servo works a lot better with the 6mm x 10mm x 2.5mm bearing put inside the servo case.

I wana see pics from another trip!

They work pretty good for general trail driving. I'd say that the dual rate setup is better though, just because their are more setup options, so you could dial in your setup much better with. Of course if you want to go for simplicity the single rates work very well and have less parts. Might be better for trail repairs, less to keep track of while wrenching in less than ideal locations.

Info on the stock springs:
AX31145 Spring Grey 12.5x60mm

The servo failed on our last trip up to Lake Marry.

The new Axial RTR's all come with a Tactic TSX45 servo that has the bearing already so it should cut down on servo issues with the RTR's "thumbsup"
