The progression of my XR10 into a Berg.

Thanks for the pointer Jake! I tried to put a RR mount on it but there just isnt enough room to fit it all in and still have the 45/55 link bias. I have some .040" and .065" 7075 that I was going to use to make a Nabil style battery mount but instead of trying to get the battery plate and the motor positioned at the same time, I was going to bolt it to the small flat spot on the case on the motor side so I can easily service the case if needed. After spending hours prepping my XR I realized that the complicated assembly process is a huge time waste so this one is being designed with 5 minute disassembly and light weight as its main objective so there will be nothing on it that doesnt absolutely need to be there. I have the battery mount cut out of lexan already, I just need to transfer it to the aluminum and whip it out.

without knuckle weight and a battery the bias is in the middle of the two lower links, I think a strong front weight bias with a slightly front biased chassis location will get me the performance I'm after. 60/40 just didnt work with the XR, it almost seemed like a better performer with the 50/50 links I had on it in the very beginning but the weight location played a large part in that. Using what I learned from the XR and the differences these bergs have, I'm hoping it works better than the XR out of the gate.

Looks bad ass man!!! God I love that chassis, even looks better with Berg axles under it. Good luck with the rest and I hope you can run it at states. I sure wish I could have mine done, but some unfortunate things have happened. Looks like the relic will have to do:mrgreen:

Very smart man, my battery mount is set up the same way you described"thumbsup"

I wont lie, you put the idea of both bolts on one side of the case in my head.... So I guess you could say I stole your idea! :flipoff: :lmao:

It's all good man, I wouldn't call it stealing. Just doing what works best. I had a agent, but have decided to go another route:mrgreen: I have ran Y-Town for along time, but i felt i needed to make a big change. Some may call me a chump, but I'll deal with it"thumbsup"

Bryce, I'm gonna need your help on the Sniper mods after States...involves a very unique material choice. Just need some accuracy on the holes that a drill press and terrible bandsaw can offer.

If you don't have the chassis then a DXF will work! Slap some dimensions on the hole locations, print at 1:1, stick it to desired material, drill, cut and deburr... Wha-la!

No problem-o

See my description above for the process...

In that case...seems time to work on the plates I'm going to be needing in a DXF. Seems way easier than hand cutting and hoping things line up. "thumbsup"

IM FINALLY GOING TO FINISH IT!!!!!!!!!!!

It feels SO good after months of coasting!
If it weren't for my 6a meeting tomorrow I would be driving it tonight.... But I'll have to wait a couple more days until I can get enough time to finish it up.

Sweet!!!! I was informed that a little package is heading my way. If all goes well I may be driving a new chassis for states:mrgreen: Gonna be close:shock:

:flipoff: I tried to get my hands on one of those chassis before picking up a SA but I didnt make the cool kid cut because they were all gone.... O'well.

If you need some help getting it together or making links we can take care of it this weekend if you want to. "thumbsup"

Thanks Ben!

I got the front shafts in tonight, swapped rear wheels, added some weights to the fronts and buttoned it back up.... For playing with it on virtually nothing and with no power at all, I'm super excited to see how it performs on the rocks! If I have any luck at all I will try to run a pack through it on Thursday. As it is, tomorrow will be very painful! Without knowing any better, I'd say this thing will be a climbing monster. If I can get the front tires up it, they just may pull the rest of the car right up while pivoting on the front links! But that's if the front end will climb said obstacle. It might be too front end biased but there's only one way to find out! For what it's worth, no electronics or battery but complete otherwise, the balance point is on the front tip of the skid or right about where the rod ends end at the Ti links. It still doesn't have anywhere near the amount of steering I am targeting so there will be some ongoing tuning to do.

Ohh, and the front shafts are rather sloppy in the stock locker... Not impressed with that so I'm going to start scratching my head for a fix.

Boss claws, sedonas, rovers or rover EX's?

Then with; knuckle weights, outboard of knuckle weights using rings only or DH 2's with weight? CF wheels or SLW's?

I've never really liked anything but rovers/SLW's on the XR but I'm hoping this thing works a smidge better so I'm reconsidering what to run since I have a pile of 'didn't work last time' ideas with several nearly new tire and wheel options.

Depending on how much weight it gets, it'll be between 4 lbs and 4 lbs 6 oz in rtr trim.

Thoughts?

My truck was running 4lbs 6oz, so on the higher end of your expected weight.

It did fine with Khaos and Boss Claws. I prefer pins tires exclusively for the increased traction and smoothness of the small pins over lugs. Shaved Sedonas are a great go too tire, I plan to have a set, especially for concrete rock @ Gregs and Davisburg. Rovers are ok in a broad range of areas, never felt they were as good as pins.
