| Land Cruiser FJ60
I thought I'd take a crack at an FJ60. I like this model Land Cruiser, it's the right amount of square and round. Hope you'll enjoy the build as much as I will. Building it on this unused TF2 that I found in my basement. I've flipped the steering servo and shackles to be more like a Tiyote. Stretched 1.55's on 1.7 wheels. Truck's built to about 1/9th scale. First step, start framing up the sides. Many layers of styrene, many layers to go, followed by hours of sanding. |

Although it doesn't look like much happened in this update, the photo you see below is the result of four hours of sanding. Both panels have been rough sanded, still need more rough sanding, and then smoothing. Sheesh. This scratch building is hard! Last edited by imthatguy; 10-28-2012 at 09:20 AM.

The side panels got another day's worth of sanding. They need some filling here and there, but the basic lines are there. I need to move onto something else to keep the build moving forward. I scribed all my panel lines with a couple of different sized scribes. In the picture below, I've already scribed a basic line and graduated to a flat blade to make an angled panel line. Looks pretty good! Here's the sides joined by a rear brace. It will make up the majority of the rear deck. That front piece is just there to keep everything square. Man, is that it? A whole weekend went by! Okay okay, I made stew.

Can't wait to see how this turns out. Love the Cruisers. I've had a 55, 60, 62, 80 and my current 100 series. The panels look spot on right now. So does the stew, man, I'm hungry now!

Okay have to ask...where would I find scribes like the ones you use? Excellent work as always! |

Looks good! I have a 84 FJ60 that's my daily driver. Got it with 50k on the odometer, it has 210k on it now. Love it! One thing, the indent on the sides doesn't go in like you have it. |

| Re: Land Cruiser FJ60 Thanks! Are you saying that the middle panel is flush with the top and bottom? I need some clarity on that. I've only seen one in person and got as many pictures as I could, but can't recall exactly.

I think he's talking about the line just above the door handles. The visible line above the door handles is a small indent while the body above and below the visible line would be flush (the same plane) with one another. The bottom line you've made looks correct to me though. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 |

| Re: Land Cruiser FJ60 Ah, understood. I don't think I need any more pictures, I've easily got 100. Going back and looking through them, I know exactly what I can do to fix my small error. Thanks very much for pointing that out!

So I was a big dummy and thought, oh yeah, I'll use .60 for the top sides and cut the windows out with the score method. NICE TRY IDIOT! I went back to good ole' .20 and will sandwich three layers together. I feel smarter now. Got more sanding done, but I have a secret sanding weapon now, that should speed up the whole process. Only 4 more panels of windows to trim out! |
