Dean on the other hand is a parts list knowledge base. He may have a great idea of what parts can easily work. Here's what I had to do

Thanks for the link, I will have to consider that mod.Only part that will be a challange for my access to machines and tooling will be the slot for the pin to hold the gears...have to talk to my buddy and see what he has for tooling.

Ok, ok, Here we are back up and running. Sorry for the delay but there is new fire under my arse! ... Not to mention new axles as well. First of all, please don't ask me for the measurements to perform any of the mods or for me to make you a set. This is a hobby and the rewards are something earned by alot of trial and error. I'm bored of the cookie cutter stuff and am trying to get back to the roots of crawling when you had to make things yourself. Figure it out yourself if you can or be the lucky guy to buy this project if it ever goes up for sale. Thanks for looking! The new plan is a double dose of portal perfection. I have some RC4WD Ultimate Yota axles all ready for the chopping. Here are their build up and modification pics. Front: After doing some measuring and re measuring, I decided to start hacking. The front went super easy and could be done by virtually anyone. The hard part is turning down the stub shaft (I used the XVD's in mine). Done on a lathe for a precise fit, shortened and with a new drive pin hole. Notice the shiney drive pin next to the stocker? Shortened an Axial dogbone pin for longer pin life. Stock pins work great but I did notice a fair amount of wear on my OG Tan yota. Assembled with XVD and ready to install. Assembled housings, spacers and longer hardware. Steering maxed out, not too bad. Ground clearance with RC4WD Boggers. Two whole inches!! I'm not sure how things will stay together with these tires so I'll be running something shorter (I'm scurred of carnage). Rears: Here's where it gets a bit more difficult... After doing some serious measuring and head scratching, I hacked off the ends of the cast Bruiseruptor housing and mocked up the portal boxes. Shafts cut to length, turned down, drilled and installed into the portals. Here they sat for many weeks while I worked on light bars and stared at them for hours. I wanted a clean way to mount them unlike the CC01 build (Power to the Portal) I did last year. Again, the answer was hiding in my band saw so I decided to remove the arms and ears, ending up with the bare portal box. At this point, I decided an adapter sleeve/flange would be necessary, here's what I came up with. The flange is inset to allow the axle tube and sleeve to butt up against the recess face of the portal. This should relieve some of the load on the sleeve during abusive driving since the sleeve is so thin. Adapters installed with pinion rotated up 10* Completed front and rear, all ready to install! I'm liking what you have come up with. Why the switch from MRC axles to yota ? |

I'm still going to do the others up, basically one thread, two builds. Maybe my new C1 and C2 rigs.
