Can't remember the exact thickness but it is just some heavy gauge styrene painted black on the bottom and flat tan on the top. As you can see from the pic it is mounted using the body posts and some additional body clips to secure.

Made my suspension adjustments before the first comp today and was very impressed with the rig, This thing plain works.
I finished the day with a -53, next closest competitor was a +39.

I'll try to get a few pics up later.

^^ Yes, it just plain works and looks good to boot.
Red wheels, black rings FTW. Diggin the winch hook too, they work ;)

One of these days I'll finish all 3 courses and put up something worthwhile.

Had the day off today so I decided to change out the front bumper.
I wanted something a bit more menacing so this is what I came up with.

You'll probably notice that I installed some old Hilux headlights. They were in the parts box so I decided to put them to good use. I think they look pretty bad ass in the Merc.

I tried to make the lake pipes but I kept crimping the 3/8" brake line I was trying to use. If anyone has a better idea or a better bender and wants to give it a shot I'd be willing to pay for your services. All I'd need is the pipe, I can do the rest.

Brian, I have a homebrew bender that will bend fairly tight radius. You are welcome to borrow it. Solid rod would be the easy way though.

Thanks Kevin. I'm wanting them to be tubing so they actually resemble lake pipes and so they get banged up a bit to.

Have you tried filling the tube with sand? I know its a pain, but might work with the radius you want.

Sand, salt, or even water and freeze it all work to different degrees.

If it where me I would go to the LHS and pick up a K&S bender. It comes with 4 pieces of brass. That brass is anealed so it will bend a tight radius. Then p/u some brass tubing from the display center to finish off the length of the pipes along with some flat stock to build the flanges and caps.

Brass is super easy to work with and you can solder it with your iron. I think you and I have talked about brass work before, P/U some oatly tinning flux from the hardware store in the plumbing section to ensure a quality joint.....

You can aneal the brass tubing from the rack also. Just heat it up to a glow and let it cool by itself. Only reason I suggest the bender combo is it will give you the bender which is a tight radius. Its like 9.00 or so.

So R2j / Shon has offered to make me a set of Lake Pipes. The plan at this time is to make them out of 3/8" stainless tubing. With the stainless I have the option to polish them or paint them black.
I quickly bent up a set of 1/4" this evening and didn't like the look of them at all. They were way too small in diameter and I felt they got lost under the body.

Here's a pic of pretty much what I'm going for, minus the heat shield.

Love you Merc!

The large lake pipes will look good but, I think the trick will be the heat shield. It’s the pipe and the larger outer diameter “heat shield” that pull off the look. Can’t wait to see what you come up with.

The heat shields as cool as they look will hang up on stuff and the traditional lake pipes are just too small for this rig. This rig is built to look good but I need it to perform just as good as it looks.
