So my VR01's arrived today and just as Chino said they didn't work. I figured since I had the Locked Up wheels taken apart it would be a good time to paint the centers black.

I think they look pretty good on the Merc now.

Last time I was out one of the other guys in the club kicked up a rock and cracked my windshield.

Looks much better. Too bad the steelies didn't work. Would a PVC(?) ring fix them like the fix people were doing to RC4WD wheels?

I tried it in several different widths and no matter what I could pull the bead.

I received a care package from Shon/R2j yesterday. He had offered to fab up a set of Side Pipes for the Merc out of 3/8" stainless tube. I have the option of painting them, leaving them raw or polishing them, I think I'm going to leave them raw for now. Thanks Shon, I'm sure they were a PITA.
I will get the rock sliders cut off and these mounted up tomorrow.

Pipes are brazed up, Shon/R2j did a great job on them. Still need to clean them up a little bit, but for now I'm kinda liking the old worn in look.

Tomorrow will be the first comp with the new rock slider side pipes, we'll see how they handle the beating these AZ rocks are going to throw at them.
I'll be sure to get a few pics.

Pipes worked like a charm today at the comp. They didn't hang up on anything and slid like butter over the rocks.

On a side note I've been having issues with my FXR ever since I updated it which has been hurting me in comps so today when I got home I ordered up a HH BRXL.

I've been wanting to move my spare tire to inside the trunk compartment for some time but didn't want to cut the body, well this morning I made it happen.

Before:

After:

First was to use the tire as a guide and cut the trunk opening.

Then I laid some foam to fill the opening and give the trunk a floor.

After that I made a quick little "L" bracket and bolted the spare up.

I've still gotta do a little tube work around the spare tire that will attach to the rear bumper, tomorrows project.

The crack in the windshield is a nice accent... true touch of realism.

I whipped up a rear bumper hoop to protect the spare tire. I made it in a way where I could use all the factory holes in the RC4WD bumper. The lower bars pass through the holes made for tail lights and have a set screw brazed in to attach a nut on the back side. The upper bars utilize the holes for the swing out tire carrier and have RCP Fab tabs brazed on. I did have to drill and tap the one hole where the spring lock was but that was the only mod needed and will still allow the use of the swing out carrier if ever the build changes.

Let me know what you think.

Well that didn't take long!

The more I looked at and thought about the round stinger on the rear bumper the more I hated it, it just didn't fit the theme of the rig. So I got out the torch and burned it off.
Now this fits the theme of this rig, Evil, Mean and Nasty!

This morning I hit the rear bumper real quickly with the wire wheel and shot it with some satin black.
