Default '49 Merc C2 by bmuzz1

Not as much a build thread as it is a transition thread.

Last Christmas I was one of the lucky hundreds that got an Axial Wrangler Rubicon and I was stoked! As the months went on and I continued to beat on it and add every part and mod to it I could think of I grew tired of seeing so many of them out on the trail. I ended up hacking up the body for use in a H2 hard body I had laying around because, well there aren't too many of them out there and not many folks like them...Perfect! Well then I saw this video UTRCRC 2014 RC4WD Southwest Scale Championships OFFICIAL TEASER - YouTube and realized I was probably going to get my ass handed to me due to the weight of the rig if I didn't make some changes...No it has nothing to do with my driving it's all the rigs fault! J/K
I have actually been dreaming up this rig since last year but just never made it happen until now. This will be my 2014 SWSC C2 rig, the '49 Merc chop top.

Before:

After:

After after:

The body was first painted on the inside using several light coats of silver and black and then painted on the outside using Pactra Under body spray which dry's flat. Figure if it is strong enough to stand up on the inside of the body it should do pretty well on the outside, we'll see.

I made a quick 2d interior today since there really isn't much room for a full 3d interior and added some little details to it.

Here's some more shots of the rig

Looking damn good man! You should build some sliders that look like a lake pipes.

Thanks fellas!

Looked back at the pics and realized I forgot a very important piece of equipment on any hot rod build... Highrize manifold so the Edelbrock air cleaner can poke through the hood.

I like what you have done, very different. Brings back some memories with the chopped top too. But I think your Merc is a 51. 49-50, horizontal tail lights.

Thanks, very different is exactly what I was going for!

Parma has it wrong then 'cause the decals say '49, I don't know it's just cool.

Thank you all for the compliments!

We're not done yet, the front bumper is just temporary until I make a new one and I loved the idea of the lake pipe sliders so they are also on the list. After that it's just lights.

man you painted that fast! glad it worked out.

very cool build! you have to tell me where you got that edelbrock air cleaner!
great tip on the parma body liner, I need to look into that.

what about raising the shock preload nuts to bring the tires into the wheel wells better? would fit the theme better and lower CG a ton too.
what about murdering out the wheels too? u could leave the rings and just paint the wheels?

VERY cool build!

Thanks!

This isn't the body I bought off you Cory, I bought this one the day before I saw your add so that one will be a spare.

Yeah I still need to make some adjustments from when the H2 body was on it .

I like the idea of painting the wheels black and leaving the rings raw.

The air cleaner was from Chris over at Rogue Elements, hit him up he may still have one or two floating around. That's how I got mine.

IDEA:

Paint the beadlock rings white and see if it gives you the gangster wall look. Or, see if you can have some larger rings made in white Delrin so they don't scratch and give a different appearance. Red might be cool also.
