I was away over the weekend so no toy trucking for me but today I managed to get the trim on the "wood" panelling.
I was initially going to use real wood strips but the more I looked into it the more I found that just about every Briarwood/wagoneer has lost all it's veneer off the trim and all that remains is the beige plastic.

So beige plastic it is!

It was time consuming rounding the sides and chamfering the ends of each little strip but I think it was worth the effort over just leaving the edges square..

I have also started on some weathering.

I've made up some metal sliders because plastic ones, look plastic.

A couple of holes in the brackets and I'll be able to pick up the stock slider mounting points. Thanks Mr Axial!!

Rear bumper time!

Done!

Well almost... After alot of milling, filing, drilling, sanding, procrastinating I have this..

It still needs sanding and recovery points etc but the basic shape is there.

Window rubbers painted and windows are in. I had to spend alot of time polishing the scratches out of the windows as they were just chucked in a bag with all the other bits. They still aren't perfect but they are ALOT better.

Stickers do a good job of hiding the scratchy windows...

After two million billion coats of clear amber and red the tail lights are done!

I've also been playing with wheel and tyre combo's..

I also tried the Axial JCR roofrack on for size.. The upside is that it fits quite well, the downside is that it's plastic and it looks exactly like the other 100000 or so SCXII rook racks out there..

So I decided I'd make my own. I probably should have spent more time on it...

The headliner is also done. Courtesy of a $7 flannel shirt.. Mmmm..... so soft.......

Thanks guys!

So I finally managed to finish off the bumpers tonight, lots of sanding... I also made up some recovery points and matt blacked them.

I've got the bumpers on and my chrome paint finally arrived today so it's now got a face! Yay!

I'm thinking I might tone those diff covers down a bit too, I've got some Rit dye somewhere... :hmmm:

I decided the clearest window is an open window so I chopped out both the fronts..

How did you do those recovery points on the bumper?

I made them out of Keysteel, the bars themselves are aluminium so I couldn't weld or braze them on.
I ended up drilling and tapping an M2 hole into the back of the recovery point and into the bar too, then I screwed a bolt into the bar and cut it's head off to use it as a stud to screw the recovery point onto. Pretty fiddly but it did the trick..

I'm not going to use them as recovery points, they're purely cosmetic so I didn't need to go crazy with over building them.

The chrome on the grille looks fantastic. What paint did you use? Any tips before I start mine...?
