Beautiful work, love the cantilever subframe so cool! Are you sand blasting the parts before you photograph as well??

Yes, the stainless brazed/welded parts are sandblasted. Only the aluminum parts are brushed for a smooth finish.

Thats some next level s,,,,tuff As a machinists too i have to agree, CNC are for mass production, manual machine are for craftsmanship. I say that cuz i never liked those CNC machines, and i ended my machinist education in 1987 not really having operated such a contraption. Dont get me wrong i love the CNC machines and that they can do, but i would not like to work on such a machine, or rather today you are supposed to run several CNC machines. And trust me if i get to that place the first things that will move into my shop at home was a lathe and a mill, maybe a grinding machine like i ran in my last job for the really precise and smooth surfaces. I did prefer welding when i was a apprentice machinist, you get to see things grow faster in your hands, and welding at a high level it is a challenge indeed. O and crawling around on huge diesel engines working on them, not the house sized ones i later got to crawl around on and inside, but a 20 CYL GM train engine are a nice place to start for a "little" kid |

Some updates here, the transmission is done ! So, all the t-case parts: For the main transmission, I choose a RC4WD R3 2 speed for his look and I wanted a t-case directly bolted on transmission housing like the real ones. So I drilled 4 holes on the R3 housing: And screwed a coupling piece: The front t-case housing in place: With the gears (Robinson Racing steel 32p gears), 1:1 ratio: Mounting some realistic parts for the global look and engraving the name just like the real one : The stock RC4WD spur is swapped with a Traxxas smallest one and I made a new motor plate to match the new gears. I'm currently working on the SDI drive shafts (I have to shorten them). More pics coming soon. Last edited by hanjin-san; 12-15-2018 at 12:11 PM. |

So sexy it hurts! What time of machinery are you using to product your parts?

Essentially conventional lathe and milling machine and sometimes CNC milling machine and EDM machine.

The outer shape was cut with a wire EDM machine, the inside shape with a CNC mill and all the rest including bearing bores on a conventional milling machine.

Hi everyones, the JK project isn't gone ! So, here are the latest evolutions since my last post. First, I trim all the non needed part on the New Bright body (stock bumpers and sliders) and I made the mounting parts. The body is mounted on his stock studs. A little cut is made on the front of the floor for the transmission: I also made the front bumper: The winch is seated on a "L" shaped pieces brazed on the main structure of the bumper: The mounting is realized like the real one, with some brackets bolted to the front of the frame rails: And a protection plate is added to the bottom: Now the sliders: |

I was wondering what happened to this build and whether or not you ever finished it!
