Arrow New Axial RTC Budget Build................

We received the first few RTC kits here at the Axial warehouse a couple days ago. I snatched one up as soon as they hit the floor out back. I drove it for a couple packs in bone stock form, and it works very well. But, I decided to make a few basic mods to see how capable I can make it, while keeping the money spent down to a bare minimum.

First up............a few pics of the new box. Our marketing department even included a list with all our hop-up parts on the bottom.

First thing I did was drill a couple holes in all 4 wheels, and add some weight. I drilled the breather holes with a body reamer until they measured about an 1/8" in diameter. Then added about 7 ounces in each front wheel and about 4 ounces in each rear wheel.

I so can't wait for these to start showing up for sale online... I have a few friends that want to get into RC, RC Crawling to be more specific, and I think this is going to be a great starter package for them! Really excited to get some more people hooked like myself.

To keep the center of gravity as low as possible I added the included lexan upper link plate to the front. The lexan plate even comes with a protective coating on it, so you can paint it to match your truck if you want. I decided to go with a 2 cell 1100mah lipo from MaxAmps. It looks like there is enough room in there for a 6 or 7 cell 2/3A flat pack as well. Then I cut the stock Tamiya battery connector off the esc and added a male Deans plug to match my batteries. An aftermarket lipo cut-off is in the plans as well, to make sure I don't run the lipos too low.

Looking good, but I think they should have went with aluminum links, basically just added electronics to the ARTR version, JMO

They aren't from what I've seen. These shocks use bladders unlike the normal axial shocks which is a big improvement imo.

They are all new springs and shocks. The fronts and right rear are "red" soft springs, and the left rear is a little stiffer "white" spring.

Correct. These shocks are a completely new design and they are silky smooth, even with plastic bodies. Here's a breakdown of the new shocks and the features included.

Brad, in the interview with Matt from RCX. He says the RTC has new shock perches to clear all types of links now - bent, machined, straight....

I haven't seen any mention of this anywhere else nor can I see any difference in the pics so far.

Can you comment on that or show the difference?

Thanks,

Mike

The lower spring cups do provide more clearance for the lower links, plus the RTC comes with spare rod ends for the shocks that vary in length. So, if more clearance is needed, just run the longer rod ends. This will raise your ride height a little, but the RTC is low slung right out of the box so it won't hurt anything to have a little extra belly clearance.

When will the new springs be out on the market? Same time the RTC hit the market?

From the pics I noticed different hollow balls from the ones I had in the kit form and they look plastic plus the design is different. Will these be exchangeable with the older metal ones? I also noticed the absence of the 55mm crossmember between the shocks, these new shock bushings are longer than the older setup with the hollow balls?

Any action shots? I'm tempted to pick one up eventually for a friend.
