That rock pile is a set up in a hobby shop called Mikes north of Dallas. Great pile but it is a little small to comp. Also great that Mikes is supportive of Crawling. That being said, I went there with my stock ax10 and was challenged. As I have upgraded/repaired/tuned my fastback based rig now that rockpile is dangerously boring. Dangerous because it has big holes in broken up concrete. You drop a wheel in these holes and its another trip the parts counter. Case and point, I met JustinThyme there to crawl some after getting his rig setup and we both broke down that day. I broke a front axle and he broke a knuckle. That being said Mike give me a shout as we are overdue for some time on the Rocks. Actually got a plan for Saturday if you want to try and connect. |

Since getting help, I'm immensely impressed with my Fastback. My truck is me. Fastback chassis are required, resistance is futile! |

Thought I'd post an update. Here's a pic of my Fastback in current config: Let's see if I can remember the list of changes/features: - Underground Crawlers Fastback chassis and rear D-Mount - Custom (RickM) delrin/alum links with Traxxas 4mm rod ends - Axial batt/servo tray with RickM 4-link mod - STRC C-hubs - Hot Racing knuckles and BTA steering - Axial rear lockouts - Proline Titus wheels (with 8oz weights in front)/HB Rover tires (white) - Integy 12mm front hex extenders - Associated XP1015 servo (204oz) - Losi alum servo horn - Novak Rooster Crawler ESC - Spectrum mini receiver - Mirrored tranny - Integy 45T motor - Proline Powerstroke 103mm shocks (Slash Rear's, 2 sets) - Junfac steel driveshafts - MIP CVD's - Venom 2S 800 LiPo (amongst others) - Personal paint job I have ordered an HR BAS steering kit as my next change. The only thing left that I should really do is upgrade the CVD's. I think I'll also upgrade the ESC to a Novak Goat so I can run 3S. Tekin FXR's seem to be the in thing, but then I'd need to add a BEC (already have a couple, just hate to add more wiring). The FXR would be smaller and lighter too, I guess. I'd also like to go with some thinner, lighter shocks, if I could only find some 103mm's that I like. Since I've gotten an XR-10, it has taken up a lot of my time (and money) as of late, but I still bring my Fastback with me every time I go out to crawl. She has a special place in my heart, as my first crawler. It started as an ARTR. I'd hate to think how much I've spent on it to get it where I want it. Fortunately, you folks here have helped me pick the right gear the first time, so it could have been worse. One current minor change: Went with Proline Titus wheels, like on my XR. I like 'em. Plus, I'm too cheap for a set of quality alum beadlocks and weights. In the mail, besides the BAS kit (which I'll post pics of once installed), I also have Nova foams coming for all four corners. I'm sincerely hoping that the BAS kit will improve my very limited wheel turn angle. I really want to get Boss Claws for this truck too. I'll probably get a set of wheels/foams/tires, so I can run the Boss Claws, and have this full set of wheels/foams/Rovers as spares or an option which can go on either truck. I also have the Berg wheels/weights/stock foams/Rovers as backups. I want to have the option to run 3S, and was considering upgrading the motor too. I'm currently leaning toward the Tekin FXR/45T combo. Anyone have thoughts on that? I was also thinking of just getting the FXR and getting a HH 45T. Maybe I'll wait and see how the 33T works out in the Losi MRC Pro Roller when it comes before I decide. I've been able to comfortably run both trucks w/o BEC using Novak ESC's (Rooster Crawler here, M2 on the XR). |

The BAS kit and foams came in the mail today! Yummy! First off, the Hot Racing BAS came with NO instructions! And it's not just a simple couple of bolts. I'll check HR's website for instructions, but that may be money down the drain (especially in working with my front 4 link config), and I'll have to go another route. The Nova's seem pretty good, but on first squeeze test when I had one installed, and a firm cut foam in the other front tire, I didn't notice a lot of difference in softness. The benefit is you don't have "hollow spots", and a more consistent surface around the tire. For the time being, I think I'm gonna stick with my firm memory foams in the rear. I think they give better support in vertical situations. I'll see after I play with it. I'm taking this truck, and my XR over to RickM's work tomorrow to brainstorm. Be afraid.....be very afraid........ |

Once again, with RickM's assistance and ingenuity, we got my Hot Racing BAS setup running, and we didn't have to make any changes to my front 4-link. Here are a couple pix: My only steering limitation is tires into shocks. Steering EPA's adjusted as necessary. It also finally became necessary to add a BEC (Castle) which RickM installed for me. Also put in MIP CVD's I got from Rick. I now need to get it out on the rocks for some work.....see how things work. I have another set of Proline Titus wheels and Losi Boss Claws coming for this truck. Then, these wheels/tires will be my optional set for either the AX or XR, depending upon course conditions. I think that will basically make this truck official "finished", requiring only maintenance and broken part replacement. One thing I may do is replace the Rooster with a Tekin FXR, to get something smaller, lighter, and 3S friendly. But their is no rush on this, as I'll be running the XR at the next comp. Thanks yet again RickM, for all your help! |
