I got to spend a little time in the garage this afternoon. Here's what I came up with:

I made four of these:

Mounted them on the front end:

And began work on the fourth attempt at the front bumper:

So far so good!

Nice. Your fab work beats mine for sure. Maybe you can look at my tuber and see how I can make it work better.

I can't believe that you have already made 4 front bumpers. I thought the first 1 looked good. Great job on the brackets and on the bumpers man. Keep up the good work

Thanks man! I will tell you....I didn't want to make four bumpers Hopefully this one works out. I think it will due to the different mounting system.

Got some things done in the garage tonight. The front bumper is on the truck and I think finished. It is the sixth one I made; the first five all cracked, broke, or got otherwise messed up. This aluminum stuff is challenging. When I started tonight, I intended to finish the fourth bumper. I formed it last night, and alumna-welded (basically soldered) one cross piece. Tonight, I started a second cross piece, but it didn't work out. One thing about the alumna-weld stuff that makes it hard - It melts at 700* or so. When it's 700*, it melts, and does what you want it to do. Then you remove the heat, and it dries. However, if you later work on something near where you last alumna-welded, that prior joint can get hot and just melt apart. So I think I give up on that. It's not like normal welding.

So anyhow, I think the front bumper is done, at least for now, and I'm happy with it. I also got some SCX-10 rock sliders for $6 in the classifieds, and installed those. I had to trim the body a little below the doors, and I like the look (third photo) of how it turned out.

I feel like my mantra is "making it up as I go along"

Fender flares!

I went to Ryan's house last night to play on the rock pile (pile is an understatement), and he mentioned he had some RC4WD Hilux fender flares that he was not going to use. A deal was struck, and today I installed them on my Bronco body. I am extremely pleased, and think they go well with the SCX sliders, as well as get rid of the sawzalled fenders look. Here are some pics; thanks Ryan!

Well, I grew dissatisfied with the bumper. Specifically in this area:

I got to thinking, if this was a real Bronco, there would be this tubework extending right out from the frame rails, but there would be no actual bumper. Ghetto.

I decided to try to make some brackets that mount on the frame rails, then come out to the front of the truck. I hope to mount another piece infront of them to serve as a short bumper, and still have the tubework for the stinger bumper come through. So far so good, here are some photos:

The holes at the end of the X-Trail frame rails are the same size and width apart as the lower suspension link holes in the stock AX10 chassis. I used it as a template for drilling:

Trimmed it a little:

Did more work on the front bumper the past few days. I made these pieces:

Installed on the truck:

Maybe tomorrow will bring a trip to Ryan's rock pile and I can test it out.

The shape of the stinger is so the winch cable can be routed through it and then up over towards the back of the truck, in case I need to cross some kind of ravine or something. It could hold the front wheels up as the truck goes forward. Hey, you never know! Also, I've got a RC4WD fairlead coming, so it will look a little more proper.

Great craftsmanship on this build. You have come a long way, and should be very proud of yourself.

Thanks fernando, I appreciate that The truck is a lot better than it was at the beginning of this thread, isn't it? It's fun learning about this stuff.

You're welcome to use it if you want to. I am grateful for it, compared to having to drill freehand.
