Default Project La licorne fatale

So,

For a while, I have had a few ideas, for a killer sportsman. Some ideas before I "retired" coupled with some new idea's. I am just posting a teaser for now. Want to get it mostly finished, before I post everything. But I will say that it will be light(probably 3 lbs 10-12 oz) compact, and very front weight bias. Not to mention the body will blow your minds.

Thought I would swing in and cock tease ya The body on it is just to cover the top secret tranny that I am sure will also blow some minds. Duck tape is advised, to tape your blown skulls back together.

More to come...

Sexually provocative picture

Lighting was good, to take a couple more teaser pics. So you get some front axle action

It is XR loaded. Home made beef toobs. Sourdojacks idear on that also. Great caster and pinion angle. Front links are made with 8/32 all thread, and Traxxas ends. Lowers are sleeved in pen bodies. Pretty hot huh? The servo mount is made of some Delrin that Sourdojack left me, and is made with a template from a GC3A. Since the Vanquish chassis is a carbon copy(for link positioning) as the GC3-A, I chose that because it is much less ugly, and more tunable. The servo is just for mock up. Waiting on one in the mail still.

I intend on taking the whole truck apart when I am ready to take real nice photos, and give a detailed write up. The tranny is where it's at. Well, at least I think so. A few locals have gotten to see her, and are liking it. So hopefully, my ideas will be useful to some of you folks

I'm really glad this build is coming together Chris! Makes me want to build up a FSJ transmission myself!

Front axle build, and assorted pics:

XR10 knuckles, with the double sheer shaved off, and custom arms made

In order to install XR10 goodies, a few things need to be done. First, you need to shave off the nipple for the knuckle to thread into, on the outside of the housing, as well as the bearing stop. Then, take a blade, and shave the guide for the knuckles into splines. That way the XR C's can slide over them.

Now that this is done, Cut some 7/16 brass tubing to the right length. Then I installed them in the housing, stopping them at the edge of the place, where the bearing stop used to sit. I drilled holes on the C's to line up, with the stock housing holes. Then, I slid them over the housing with the tube clamped inside, using the holes as a guide to drill the brass tubing. I drilled it with a small enough bit, so that the screw will tap into it. It only took me about 10 mins. Pretty easy.

Didn't grab pics of the axle shafts being cut down. But I just cut them to the length of a stock axle shaft, measuring from the bearing stop on the axle shafts, to the end. Then, I just cut flat spots on em, and they work with the locker

The axle put back together. I clearenced the axle shafts to turn sharper. Now I can go lock to lock, without binding in the universal. This should also limit the shimmy you get with a high RPM turn.

Everything panned out good, to have no rubbing on the links. There is just a pube of rubbing on the shock when the tire stuffs. But not much.

Some other pics of the truck. More to come....

I like the idea of having the servo mounts flipped sitting the servo further back, I've been tooling with that idea. One question I have is what foams are you using and how narrow are those wheels? the tires look so tall, hmmm I guess that's 2 questions.
