Had to post this. I hate that the motor is out for rebuild but it's given me a chance to really look at the rig. There is something awesome about this new rear axle and the SDI shafts. CCC did an awesome job on this rig. I just need to stop with the 15 foot drops. The truck, trans and wheels held up fine. The motor didn't seem to happy tho. It's a testament to the parts I get from Barry. Good stuff.

No bud, it has some play with the SDI shafts. Some of my team mates with the same set up use orings to keep it shoved in. I don't see the point. It's given me 0 issues thus far. Good eye tho!

If you pinion shaft can move in and out, its not right;) As particular as you are I cant see you letting that go. Lol

Was that motor pinion wasted?

Well.... The pinion shaft is retained by the inner bearing on the axle. The outer bearing is what is being noticed here and because the SDI universal isn't as big as stock, it lets the bearing drift a little in the bearing socket. I never saw how it would affect the performance but a couple of o-rings could be used to fill in the gap if wanted. On the motor pinion...... The picture I saw looked fine but maybe the set screw could be slipping.

As long as the gap/gear lash is set correctly it shouldn't bother it I guess.

Maybe being spiral cut on the gears keeps the pinion pushed out? You don't feel it binding the teeth together but agree with Beest .... worth fixing.

Scratches on servos...that's serious business. The pinion was worn but fine. The motor can its self was cocked after that fall. So it's in for rebuild. I'll be putting a new pinion on when it gets back. I believe, in all the madness of the day, that the pinion set screw was not on the flat spot of the bar on the motor. The only other thing it could be is the locker. I've been told the locker has never had a fail. So a guy that drives in fear of scratching his servo isn't going to be the guy that causes the first locker issue. Lol.
