Quite a bit been happening recently.

The plastidip coating i had on everything was letting moisture in and i wasn't fully happy with the Turnigy servo.
So Hobbywing 1080 for the ESC, and a nice Power HD 20KG servo that's been waterproofed (although didn't need it)

Few other goodies / changes along with about 50% of the truck replaced with new stuff.
Running 3s now

Some more progress recently.

The old Turnigy servo was swapped for a Power HD 20KG and running it at 6v with the Hobbywing 1080 now. I've fitted Deans to it and moved my receiver to a small waterproof box i made up.
21t GoolRC motor now does the powering on 3s and 13/87 gearing.
Drives pretty good. In fact done about 5 miles up a steep muddy and rocky hill over 6 hours last week on one 5000mah 3s! 1200feet

So i went back again today for a bit more exploring.

So for some more scaled driving i recently swapped out my 21t motor for a 65t motor and kept it on the same low 13/87 gearing.

I put on my Axial replica wheels and 1.9 Xtra Speed tyres to try as well

Few more minor changes recently.

I installed a 45t GoolRC motor and 90t spur gear for 13/90 gearing.
Very nice low end control. Great for rocks but a little slow and take for the trails.

I also put on some cheap, unbranded Chinese Ebay tyres and generic foams and took it and the new gearing for a 1100ft / 360m hill walk up a steep and challenging route.

I made it up all the way virtually unaided except a few "hand of God" moments. Took a few very bad cartwheels down a steep bank due to some poor driving decisions and ripped off my front bumper, stripped the alloy servo horn and damaged the steering servo. Managed to do some very questionable repairs and limped it the rest of the way up and down on 1 3s 5000mah pack.

I had a friend with me who doesn't like RC's much so we were at a semi quick pace and not as many chances for nice photos as i'd have liked.

Some more changes...

Chinese Ebay stainless steel driveshafts (was concerned about small circlips at first, but solid 5 miles or so of abuse on them now)

Roof rack fitted to add accesorries to help with the scale look.

Had an event with my local(ish) group where we had to attach a boiled egg onto our truck, and the first to complete the course with the egg intact won.
Wasn't me sadly!

Just been enjoying driving it recently with not much major changes happening

My friend who lives locally got himself an Ascender. It's only got weighted wheels and outboard shocks but it climbs well.
So well in fact, it made me realise how bad mines could be at times






Up until recently only my front wheels were weighted, but now my rears are also weighted.
The shocks were terrible as well. Springs too stiff and oil too thin
I got some 100mm internal spring shocks and filled them with 50 weight oil and played around with some different RC4WD springs.
End result is a truck that now sits much lower and is more stable but flex is still alright.








It's done a lot of miles with submersions, hill climbs, crashes and rolls end.
I found some worn parts and now i'm tearing it to bits to give it a good service.

One of my favourite places to drive now is here at Conic Hill. Literally drive the trucks all the way to the top. 1200 foot and done it a few times before servicing.

Decided to take things apart to regrease and inspect.

First up, the trans.

Oops...
I did use a reasonable amount of Marine grease.
Bearings were alright. No excessive play and none siezed. Some WD40, a few Q tips and paper towels and not perfect but much better.
This time i'll put in a fair bit more Marine grease and inspect them a lot more frequently.

Some more progress

35t motor comm cleaned with eraser and timing set to 6 degrees advanced (was 12 degrees previously)
Changed motor wires from 16awg to 14awg and from Deans T plugs to 4mm bullets
Running 16t pinion just now but waiting on 15t to arrive as i've went back to an 87t spur as the 90t fouls the spur cover

Trans is now filled with fresh grease as well





Despite all the water, mud and miles it was actually pretty good inside but outer bearings had a lot of wear

So all new bearings, shimmed (0.6mm) pinion and lots of fresh grease.
New Power HD Waterproof 23KG servo fitted as well

I've had to drop my 90t spur gear back to the 87 again as it was fouling the spur cover slightly.
Alloy chassis rails and braces fitted
Steering linkage position changed
Power HD 23KG waterproof servo fitted
Spektrum trx*& Orange rx now rather than RTR stuff

First proper outing today after the rebuild with a few small changes. Truck performed fine but next time it should perform great
