1950 Chev Panel Truck

I've been trying to weather the wheels but they just wont rust I sanded them down in spots and sprayed them with salt water, hardly rusted at all

The wheels I can switch back and forth but the lenses are kinda permanent. I like the second lenses to kinda. still not sure.

Thanks Dawg, I have a few things comin' tomorrow. Some scale acc. and the alum steering stuff and a 2 speed. Still haven't picked a winch yet but that will be coming soon.

I get the old school feel from this truck. So I vote for The first lenses and the first wheels. Looks good with no protection on the lights. And you don't get more old school then white wagon wheels.

Found this cool tip on the forum here somewhere, fender flares from windshield wipers, what do you think?




















Didn't glue them on, not sure I want them. I also went with the grating for the headlights.

I'm not really digging the wiper blade flares but that's just my opinion. I would go with something in the thin chrome style trim and add a little bit of a rust look to them as well.

I like the S.D.I. fender flares, but they'd probably hold up about as long as the mirrors on my last rig .

I sure it would be the first thing I would be dragging.

I need to come up with a good set of drive shafts, the WB8 that come in the kit are nice but you cant get near the angle out of them like you can out of the Traxxas Pede shafts. So I guess that's what I'll be working on this weekend since it's only gonna be 12 deg this weekend (-11 Celsius for you metric folks out there)

I think my problem is that I don't wanna take my tires apart. I've been spraying them with salt water but being winter the air is so dry that it evaporates to quickly. I might have to take them apart. If I do that then I will do 1 in salt water and 1 in coke and see which is faster.

When you don't want something to rust, it seems to happen overnight! If they're bare metal, a good strong salt bath should do the trick. Otherwise bury them in the backyard till spring

Michaels Arts and Craft stores sells a product called "Sophisticated Finishes". Its a two part rust antiquing set. Its a brush on metal paste. Let it dry then brush on the liquid rust activator. Cover with a plastic bag overnight and in the morning you have glorious rust. Real rust. I've been using the stuff for years and find it quite durable. The stuff is awesome!

I think the wiper blade flares look great!

They are exactly the style people used on 1:1's in the era of building those 50's panels. The new fancy bushwackers didn't exist then.

I did a little searching but never found any pictures with flares but I kinda like the looks of them.
I might still glue them on, got a few months be for it warms up outside.

This is the style that I think of when I picture the old panel trucks. Maybe down the road I will grab one of these bodies as well and take the time to do some detailed scale stuff.
