Good to know thanks, as I am in the process of sourcing parts to start the D60 wide axle conversion on my OG SCX10.

Has anyone found a CMS/Pan Hard set-up that will work with this axle set-up?

Before I had my skeleton chassis I used the vp servo mount, ssd servo link and panhard bar.

Thanks. What panhard mount did you use for this SSD axle housing?

The CMS kit was released before the D60 axles. It is clear from the CMS product images that the axle panhard mount is for the stock SCX10 axle: http://www.ssd-rc.com/chassis-mounted-servo-kit.html

The D60 axle comes with a panhard mount. Look at the images: D60 Axle Case for SCX10

So no other aluminum axle panhard mount is needed.
We are actually releasing a D60 axle specific CMS soon.

Thanks! So if I use the plastic panhard mount that comes with the D60 axle can i use the current CMS kit that SSD offers or will the geometry be off?

Yes you can use the current CMS kit. The geometry will is the same in both kits. The new D60 CMS kit will not have the unnecessary stock axle panhard mount.

XR/wide mod complete!

Front:

Parts!

Brass tubes slide in. the 3mm long screws that attache them to the axle were too short IMO. half would only grab 1 thread, and the other half would grab anything at all. there were some other longer screws included, but they were too long, would hit axle shaft.
this can be fixed by grinding off the housing nipples, or using 4-5mm long screws.
Tube fit was perfect

Bearings and Cs installed. again perfect fit.

Heavy duty CVD, beefy @ 5mm

knuckle installed
the tolerances here between the Cs, Kingpin top-hat bushings, and Knuckle were really tight. a bit too tight when i first installed them. but i worked them back and forth for about a minutes and they loosened up to an acceptable level. ABSOLUTLY zero slop. and i dont think it will develop any with as tight as the tolerances are. they look pretty good too

Titanium Tierod installed, not shown but included is the titanium steering link.

as usual everything fit and looks great, 10.8 hardened hardware included with everything. really nice touch.

Rear

super easy on the rear. Brass tubes slide in. fit was perfect. both front and rear tubes have two holes at the outer end, and two holes at the inner end that screws go threw the housing. no drilling required. very secure.

Shafts in. no bearings on the rear. beffy 5mm shafts

add your wraith lockouts with bearings, and your done! fit perfect.

The payoff!

if your looking for a super stable setup with tons of steering check SSD D60 wide axle out. everything fit so tight, and looks great, with prices alot better than my VP setups.

Awesome! I love the wide SSD setup on the front of the Murder Jeep. I did wide hubs in the rear but I'm going to have to do the wide kit now that I see your install. Looking good.

I'm going to get one of these to replace my rear axle on my scx10 g6, will all my parts fit these housings or will I have to get new parts?

All the stock axle parts will fit, but you can't just do one of the axles, you have to do both front and rear at the same time. These housings flip the gears inside of the axle so if you just did the rear, your axles would be spinning in opposite directions.

So I've made a discovery as to why me and a group of other comp guys have been stripping our gears while using these axles.

The problem has been found..

So, Even a brand new SSD housing has too much slop on the pinion gear bearings. I welcome anyone to check yours now. It will have some play side to side, This should NOT be there..
It is enough to allow the gear to slip if you get a front tire bound up.

Brand new, The inner pinion bearing hole is the worst, it wont even hold the bearing in by itself..
The outer is better, But still allows play in the gear..
Tried shimming the outer edge of the bearing, Which works, But the shim works its way out..
Now, JB welding the bearings into the housing DID work, and the setup is SOLID now.. No clue what to do if a bearing in there fails tho..

SSD please please fix this issue. The bearings should be press fit. And should have NO slop to allow the gear shaft to move the bearing around.. It only gets worse once it starts.

My gears are stripping also, replaced a set (HD underdrives) in the same housing only to strip them again, still using same set on because it still drives

Seriously? I just bought six of those axles. How big a problem is this? How much/heavy use before the gears start hurting?

I've noticed this as well. I was literally signing in to post about it.

I think JB Welding probably ruins the housing in a simple bearing failure. I'm not sure what else would work though.

We are looking into it...

For now I suggest a little threadlock on the outside edge of the inside bearing to hold the bearing in place.

Thread lock won't adhere to plastic will it?
