Not saying it won't happen. But our comps aren't terribly difficult so maybe I've just lucked out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk | |

As I've had 0 issues with my SSD aluminum rear housing, I went ahead and bought another one. And am in the process of chopping it and XR modding it into a front housing.. 0 slop, Oh how sweet it is.. Oh and the increased bearing size otta help Don't ever say I dont love you SSD.. Someone drop me a PM when SSD sorts this out with a real solution, Not a backyard scalers bandaid Last edited by Capwn; 08-15-2016 at 10:38 PM. |

Believe me the SSD diamonds are impressive. Only hated the front axle and its only 4 link option without chopping it up.

Add another SSD story to the mix. On my third set of gears. Currently limping the truck along until Axial releases scx2 axle kits. The amount of slop in my axles is just unacceptable. My truck is competitive and gets used every week at the indoor comps at the crawl space and at the scale adventures. I have shimmed and glued bearings. I have shimmed the pinion. Nothing has been a permanent fix. I think the plastic is to soft for the application as well as the material around the pinion bearings being to thin. It's a shame too as the axles are just what I need for the type of competing I do. I would like to add that the CrawlSpace comps are hard, HARD on the trucks. But Every stock plastic axial housing used at the comps, mine included, have not had this happen to them. It's not the application it's the design. |

Well, since I already had the axles I went ahead and installed them with some foil tape around the bearing. I got the truck out on the trails for 2 1/2 miles today to start testing them. I'll crack them back open to check how the tape and gears are holding up when I get to 10 miles or so. Axial SCX-10 G6 by johnny anguish, on Flickr |

Well, Just baby it, and it should last for a while.. I wouldn't try to compete in any way tho, Unless you want a failure mid comp.. |

Well, I finally got around to opening the axles back up. These have over 20 trail miles on them with the aluminum-taped bearings still firmly in place and no noticeable wear to the gears. Take it for what it's worth. Axial SCX-10 Jeep Wrangler G6 (Re)Build by johnny anguish, on Flickr |

So, If you plan on just driving your truck in a straight line. Tape will work great. If you actually plan on going hard, Comping, Doing real driving, Think about other ideas... People need to quit trying to sweep this issue under the rug like its nbd.. Thats exactly how companies get away with crap.. Also, if thats the rear you are trying to show off. you are cheating.. The rear doesn't see NEARLY as much stress as the front.. Try turning your steering past 70*, See what I'm talking about. |

Could have been a better design made. If your gonna make a new axle housing why not increase pinion bearing size also. These things hang up on everything even with the optional diff cover. It's a little better than the factory cover but let's face it metal loves to stick to rocks. I love the look but just recently went back to stock axle housings.

It's in progress. It takes time to update tooling, test samples, and make new production. When these were made nobody was complaining about needing larger bearings in the SCX10 axle otherwise we would have. Last edited by SSD; 10-07-2016 at 05:10 AM. |

Very cool to hear that y'all are gonna upgrade the housings. I know it's no small task both from a financial and also a logistical stand point. It'll take some time to get these out once the redesign is completed but should be well worth it. Thanks! |

| Re: New SSD SCX10 axle housings Just to be clear, we are not changing it to larger bearings. We did look at it but it's not possible in the current tooling.
