Default bilinvic's SCX10.2 Build Ver. 2

It's time for a new build and now that I know how good Axial's SCX10.2 platform is, I decided to build another. Unlike the first 10.2 kit I built which is still pretty much stock, this one will be far from stock. I have spent many hours fine tuning my original 10.2 and it's one of the best performing crawlers I own and I don't plan on upgrading it much more unless something breaks.

This build will have a slightly longer wheelbase (probably around 13") in order to suit the body that I will be using. I will be using Proline's new 1985 Toyota HiLux SR5 body with a Vaterra's K10 rear cage with the aluminum panels.

Electronics will be as follows:

MMP
HH Puller Pro 2200kV Standard
Castle BEC
Spektrum RX
Xpert HV WR-7701 Brushless Servo

Parts that have arrived so far:

Vanquish Products SCX10 II Transmission Top Shaft
Traxxas Shock Rebuild Kit (TRX2362)
Traxxas Jato Rod Ends w/Hollow Balls
STRC Aluminum Chassis H Brace; Black
Vanquish Products 1.9 Aluminum Method 105 Race Wheels
Vanquish SLW Hubs .350 and .475 (not sure which size I will use yet)
Team Ottsix Racing 1.9 Voodoo KLR Tire - Silver Compound
Team Ottsix Racing 1.9 Two Stage Foams - Light Trucks

Parts that are still being shipped:

Incision SCX10 II 1/4 Stainless Steel 10pcs Link Kit
Vanquish Products Currie RockJock SCX10 II Front Axle Black Anodized
Vanquish Products Currie RockJock SCX10 II Rear Axle Black Anodized
Vanquish Products SCX10 II Spool x2
SSD Pro Aluminum Knuckles for SCX10 II (Black)
Freqeskinz Wrap for SR5 Body

For the time being, I'll be using Exile RC brass SLW hub weights on the front because they are slightly heavier than the SSD knuckle weights, but this could change.

This is the starting point and like always, there's never really any end as my rigs always seem to be evolving!!!

I'm looking forward to getting this build underway....enjoy the ride along!!!

wHats the benefit of the Traxxas rod ends compared to the ones that come on the incision links?

The Incision link ends are Traxxas E-Revo length, the Jato ends are longer and can be trimmed for custom lengths as required.

This rig is gonna look pimp! You gonna slap on a Knight Customs SR5 grille on it to polish off the scale look?

Wow, I haven't even finished building my clone of your first 10.2 and you're already on to build #2. Man, I'm never going to catch up!

I learned a lot on your first 10.2 build and have referenced it many times when building mine. I'm sure this latest build will be no different! Good luck and I can't wait to see it go together.

This ^^^ I will only use this body in the future with an aftermarket grill in place.

I'm not sure about the grill, I don't think it will be needed after I apply the Freqeskinz wrap.

Thanxs for all the interest guys.

Transmission is completed. The Vanquish Products SCX10 II transmission top shaft is worth every penny! I recall spending a whole whack of time assembling my first 10.2 transmission trying to get rid of the spur wobble and in/out slop. This VP top shaft is plug'n'play and the wobble and in/out movement is gone. Thanxs VP. The "shelf" on the VP top shaft that the inner slipper plate rests on is larger than the stock Axial top shaft and this is what takes care of the spur wobble. I also replaced the spur gear plastic bushing for a bearing.

Also note that on step 18 on page 19, the shaft (AX31413) uses plastic spacer AX31375 #7; NOT part #6 as indicates in the instructions.

I'm not sure what to expect from the Holmes Hobby Puller Pro 2200kV motor, so I will use the stock 15T pinion as a baseline.

I thought about VP's motor plate and Atlas transfer case but after watching Harley's live MST CFX-W build the other night, he hinted that a complete VP transmission may be coming down the road....so I will wait. The stock motor plate and transfer case on my v.1 10.2 are performing flawlessly, so they are not a must for me at this time.

Lucas Red'n'Tacky #2 was used for the gears.

I had one issue with the transfer case...there was a build-up of extra plastic on the inner surface of the case that prevented the two cases to fully "mate" because the larger 26T 48P metal gear (AX31409) was not being allowed to fully seat. This was easily cured by shaving of the unwanted plastic with a new #11 blade. The yellow circle in the pic below indicates where the extra build-up of plastic was located.

I'm pretty sure it's a 5x10x4mm bearing, I will have to measure it this evening to confirm.
