Has anyone had to shim the pinions? I'm getting a binding/chattering but if I pull out on the driveshaft it seems to stop. Anyone else had this issue?

I have similar issue with my builders kit, making a related noise, and someone did recommend that I shim the axles. However I am unsure of how to do this, so over time of about 10-15 hours or so the noise subsided. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk |

You will probably need to use a washer between the end of your driveshaft and the pinion bearing. You can tell by spinning the driveshaft disconnected from the trans. it should spin smoothly in both directions. if it is rough in one direction the pinion is climbing on the ring, and the shim will stop that. Very common with the high helical pinions https://www.amainhobbies.com/yokomo-...zc-s50/p585165 Last edited by mikemcE; 04-19-2019 at 02:38 PM. |

The 10.2 diff wont spin freely until you connect the driveshaft which essentially pulls the pinion back like you mentioned. Without the driveshafts installed the pinion gets pushed or pulled into the ring gear making it feel terrible, this is normal for the 10.2. Sometimes its necessary to put a shim on the pinion shaft on the outside (in between the driveshaft and pinion bearing) which can add some more "pull" to it. Thanks guys. I figured that was the case. Just making sure. I'm far from new to this stuff. But been out of it for a while.

Awesome, two years later and I’m building my first 10.2 kit and had the same concern/issue. Bingo run the search and here is my answer! Thanks to all who blazed the trail before me! Cheers! |

Many of my questions are found via search butt0n as well ![]() I have the 10.1-3 and the 10.2 still has a very special place in my heart and unless you are 100% into rock crawling, i still think it's still a relevant platform depending on your goals. | |
