Mine took about a week to get to Houston, free, no questions asked, good stuff!

The flange that seats against the locker is half as thick on the new version of the short shalf. If they are the same, you have the old style.

I was told all the new axle shaft kits have the revised short shaft.

Nope...no pics of the updated short shaft that I've been able to find. I recall someone saying something about the collar being almost thin enough to create a sharp edge, and if that's the case, then I definitley have the old style.

Half as thick as the one on the long shaft? That's what I'm asking....what do I have to compare it to?

Yes.

Yes, compare the inner flange on both shafts to each other, short shaft should be half as wide almost knife-edged...if it's the new proper shaft.

Its thinner allowing the axle to engage into the locker further. And its very noticable, it almost looks weak now, lol

I definitely need to contact Axial and get a replacement then. It certainly isn't knife-edged, and although I didn't compare the two, I'm pretty certain it's about the same thickness as the long side shaft.

Edit: Email sent to Axial Service for replacement shaft.

Sent my email off to Axial Monday afternoon and got a reply first thing Tuesday morning that I had rear axle shafts coming.

I was for most of the evening, but when I got home about 9:30 last night, these were waiting in a small FedEx package on my door step.

Thanks Axial for the Prompt service!

And since I know there isn't a pic up yet that shows a comparison between the old shaft and the new one with the updated collar, I figured I'd post one for others to see in the future.

These will be going in my Wraith when I get home from work this afternoon.

So whats the best fix? grind off the lip on the axle or drill the ring gear? I noticed this problem during both my builds and I am getting some wear on my ring gears because of it. Need to fix it tonight and have been leaning towards grinding the axle.

I pulled mine off my RTR, noticed it was the older version. Did not have a problem reinstalling the axle or the lockout. That being said I have burnt up the stock motor and the Axial 27t in it now gets pretty hot. It was only running on a 3300 nimh, crawling and bashing. Should I be getting the newer version of the short shaft?

If you think you can grind it down, go for it. But I'd honeslty call Axial and let them know what's going on. They'll send you a new set or rear axle shafts.

Yes, you should opt for the updated rear axle shaft. It will come as a set, as pictured in my previous post.

And just FYI....it didn't fix my problem. I managed to smoke an Integy 35T V11 Pro Friday running some light trails. Granted, I was at full throttle a lot of the time, but I've got something binding somewhere, so I need to do a full teardown of my axles and trans to find out what's going on.

Send a copy of your sales receipt, too, as they'll want that before sending out replacement parts.

They only sent me the one rear axle shaft, not the set.

EDIT: But it solved my issue.

I haven't purchased any of my axles "new", so no sales receipt here. I imagine axial would just tell me to pound sand then?
I chose to remove the lip off of the axle shaft. I have done it to three axles now, and it made a world of a difference. I wouldn't recommend modifying anything else to get it to work, when it is the shaft that is the problem.
