Default Wobbly Shaft...???

The last time out my slipper clutch was slipping a bit too much, so I took it apart to adjust the spring and noticed that the pinion gear looks slightly cockeyed against the spur gear. So I loosened the motor mount bolts and spun the spur gear under the magnafying light and this is what I found....it is a bit wobbly. You can see the spur gear along with the slipper clutch oscillate.

Is this normal, or if not what would cause this condition???

I have that exact problem. I think the slipper discs may be bent if not it's the shaft. I just got an extra set to try to troubleshoot it but won't be able to do so till I get off work. Hopefully someone who's fixed this problem could chime in.
This just saved me from starting a new thread.

I wonder if one or two of the 3 mounting bolts are just a bit too long and protruding through the slipper plate into the slipper disc? I had to use washers on the bolts to prevent this. I guess different spur manufacturers make them in varying thicknesses.

That could be an issue I suppose, and I am using Kimbrough Racing spur and pinion gears. But that does not seem to be my problem.

I took the spur gear off and spun the shaft and slipper plate under the magnafyer and it spins straight as an arrow. So I put the spur and slipper pad back on and it was only when I tightened it down that the wobble happened. So I tried to get the spring as centered as possible (you can see that it is off center in the first video) and once centerd, I can tighten the nut all the way down, then back it off about 1/8 of a turn and it now spins nearly perfect, or about as good as it is gona likely get. I also found a larger OD washer to put between the spring and the spur/slipper to theoretically more evenly distribute the load.

OK, that makes sense. I've noticed the spring is not always centered on the shaft and I've had to re-center it on a couple of trucks. It would be better if inner diameter of the spring was close to the shaft size.

Glad you got it sorted.
