Took the Rockshow out for its first test drive today since the rebuild.

And as I expected I ended up going back to 475 hubs in the front and 600's in the rear.

This also meant I had to go back to .600 of wheel weights.
Still no weight in the SLW's

I also ended up switching to Losi Gray springs in the rear.

This is pretty much the exact same setup I have used on the previous Moonbuggy chassis.

I'm also going to change back to 30wt in the shocks.
Tried out 22,5wt today and felt it unloaded a bit quick for my liking.....I'm more of a "slow and steady" crawler.....although the Br00d LE 35T Double Winds did jump some gaps today

All in all.......a great day......perfect weather.......and a rig that requires only minor adjustments to be on the podium

Going out again tomorrow.....might get some pictures as well

Why losi gray springs in the rear? If it unloads too quickly in the rear, seems like you would want to go softer. Oil will slow it... but isn't too much spring pressure the real culprit?

I was at an event and a little bird told me to try soft springs in the rear and slightly firmer in the front.

I was skeptical but I tried it and was pleased.

Great information on the shocks, thanks. I used Losi shocks for a few years and just recently tried the Big Bores, so far so good and with Mini T springs they are light weight.

Your Rig is looking very sweet I really think the black VP upgrades is my favorite, defiantly stealthy.

I have a set of 2011 LE double's too. Just curious what size pinion gear are you using?

Need the extra spring tension in the rear to cure a slight tendency to lift one of the front wheels on off camber near vertical climbs.

I prefer the stiffer spring to just adding preload to the softer spring.
It's more controllable than a compressed spring.

And to counteract the added spring tension I have to go to a thicker oil as well to avoid having it unload too quickly........it all relates to one another

As you can see I have the shocks at quite an angle and the Losi Golds are the softest option springs.
I like my crawler quite soft. And to be able to "control" it that soft I need just the right viscosity.

A bit of science and a lot of trial and error

Tried the firmer in the front approach......but it doesn't work at all with my driving style and set-up.

Not exactly sure why though.
Several of my team members run that setup and they are more than pleased.

Might give it another try once I've dialed in the setup on this one though

I'm trying out different sized pinions at the moment.

Front = 14
Rear = 13

Not sure if I like it yet.

The XR10 axels tend to "get hung up" a lot more than my previous ones.
Have always used the dual FXR's to set the front/rear bias and so far I prefer how it handled with equal pinions front and rear.

Going to give it a few days more before I make up my mind though

Glad to be of help

Have a bunch of new and used Mini-T springs lying here as well (in addition to 2 x Mini-T and 1 Exotec conversion all carbon/alu./brushless).

Never been a fan of the Traxxas shocks but I can see the benefit of the added clearance
Seems to be "the thing" to do at the moment

Thanks......I think it turned out great with the new V6's as well.
Just waiting for my new sKinz from Neal at Freqeskinz

Should make it "pop"

Well.....testing got cut short today after I smoked my 7950 after just 10 gates....
Kind of my own fault after leaving it in a bind for maybe 10 seconds while I repositioned myself......it literally went up in smoke

So much for downgrading from my trusted 7980

Anyways.....didn't get more than a handful of pictures as this was course 1 for the day.
Camera usually doesn't get much use in the early stages soooo here's what I got:

I guess I'll swap back to my 7980 and ditch the VP servo guard......

Other than the servo problem the rig performs great with the latest changes

A few finishing touches and I'm ready for the season opener on Saturday

It sits at 2405 grams (5,3 lb.) at the moment

2 x .300 D-lux knuckle weights on each side in the front and no added weight in the rear.

Panels and sKinz add app. 40 grams.

I'm currently running full width standard Nova 5.25" DD foams.

Felt the narrowed inner foams got a bit too soft.

Might experiment with some medium inner foams and tuning rings......

Money isn't the biggest concern.....I have to admit

I tend to get a bit carried away when building my rigs.
But after 30 years of building R/C cars I'm done buying "cheaper" first to upgrade later.
That always end up costing me more in the end

But the most important thing is I REALLY enjoy building these

No problems so far

They have hold up great so far. No clicking noises or excessive slop

Hosted and comped in the season opener of the 2011 Norwegian Crawler Championships yesterday.......took a close 3 place after making 2 stupid choices on two of the "impossible" gates.

The XR10 performed absolutely brilliant though.
I'm very pleased with the rebuild

Had the XR10 in some crazy binds and managed to power and wriggle myself out of them without breaking anything

Made a few changes ahead of this weekends round #2 & #3 of the Norwegian Crawler Series

D-Lux knuckle weights have been replaced by the Vanquish weights

D-Lux weight with 2 x .300 rings (maximum using 475 hubs in the front):

Vanquish with 1 x 1/4 ring:

Vanquish with 1 x 1/4 + 1/8 rings:

Vanquish with 2 x 1/4 rings:

All of these combinations are compatible with a 1" SLW using a 475 hub

The fit and finish on these are outstanding
