Monster?? This better not be a i'm a Traxxas and need parts every run Monster. My maiden today lasted all of 15 sec. Since i have never heard the front end "Clicking" everyone is talking about i bet it sounds just like in my video. I am new to the Tekin RX8 and i think i have my drag brake set way to high. It seemed like when i let of the throttle it immediately locked up the breaks or darn near. I'll have to check it a few once i calm down.

Arrgh!! My Drag Brake was way too high. I just disabled it for now. Upon inspection the spur gear cover plate is hitting at the drive shaft and the pinion gear. It almost looks like the tranny shifted down though the bolts are tight. ???? I'll clearance these to stop the rubbing and then dive into if the Front gears grenaded.

Well, I sure didn't have that issue when I built mine. No idea what you have going on there.

Maybe the drive cup screw pin loosened or the bearing failed melting the bearing recess allowing the shaft to move up.

Yeah that sounds like a transmission issue. I agree with the output bearing probably failed and the shaft has moved up into the cover also separating the gears inside. I didn't see if you said you put better bearings in when you built it, if you didn't I would order some Avids or something.

Thanks for all the replies

After my installation of the tranny there was roughly 2mm of forward and 2mm aft movement of the shaft for the drive outputs. I have seen this in multiple RC's so to me it was no big deal. I accounted for the movement when i set my pinion.

I took the tranny out and upon further inspection the play is obviously too much by the state of my picture. The tranny case shows no signs of melting. It is just the cover over the shaft that melted.

Being i only ran this for seconds there are no blown bearings. I checked just in case. I put a straight edge on the shaft and it is straight.

They don't give you a measurement for the Output Shaft spacer AX31000 #1 but looking at the picture in the manual from where the spacer ends to where the drive pin hole is mine is almost 4mm shorter. The 4mm is about the Forward and Aft movement i had from the beginning. Obviously too much so i am going to make one.

Make certain all of the screws holding the two pieces of the tranny are fully tightened. When I assembled mine the first time i noticed play and it was due to the screws not being cranked down fully. I used an electric drill with hex bit and my clutch was set too soft. The screws felt tight but still had to be cranked down a little more. After cranking down the screws the play was gone.

Just measured mine, there is 0.8mm end float on the drive shaft. 6x10x0.4mm shim removes all but the slightest end float. With 4mm movement there's something seriously wrong.

Thanks again guys for the knowledge sharing. I clearanced what needed to be, made a new spacer so i have .5mm play on the shafts, installed a bearing on the slipper instead of the plastic spacer, torqued the tranny case together a few more rotations and tested on the bench.

All was good expect for my rear drive shaft wobbled a little bit. Took it off and rotated it in case it it was out of balance somewhere. Still no good. Took it off again and the stupid thing is already starting to twist. Good Lord above it has only been ran for 15sec. It reminds me of my wraith and why i went with MIP's. I took a aluminum rod and put it inside the shaft to help it a little until MIP comes out with a rear shaft.

I only had time to do a couple of 1/2 throttle runs but no "Clicking" was present.

I hope my issue and the knowledge you shared helps someone in the future.

I don't remember if the front and rear outputs are different sizes. Can you check to see if they are or different? Maybe something worth investigating

Red,
They are different sizes but you couldn't swap them. The front uses the cup for the dog bone and the rear is directly onto the output spline.

Alrighty, I had an issue with the servo linkage hitting the plastic upper steering cover and knocking the servo linkage off the rod end at the servo horn. Problem was, the servo horn sat too high. I was using a standard Dynamite aluminum servo horn with an upward lift to it. I found an OFNA clamping servo horn that sits much lower on the servo and with the spacer installed lowers the linkage so it no longer hits the plastic upper steering cover. Here is what I now use without issue

Picked up a Mamba Monster/2200 system the other day so I can move the TEKIN system to my 1/8 Truggy. I'm not a fan of the wires on the 2200 being integrated, I had to mount the ESC in a not so ideal position so the motor wires would reach. With the TEKIN, I could mount the ESC how I wanted to and then I could make the motor wires as long or as short as I needed to make it fit and look good. Pictures to come. I'll be testing it tonight to see if it has more or less power, torque, top end etc.

I finally got to test the Mamba Monster system today, I think it is a little more mild than the tekin 2000/RX8...

About the same top end and seems soft on take off but still strong on the bottom end.

After 5-6 minutes up and down the street, motor temp was only 113°. Think I may add a few teeth in the pinion and try again.
