This info was shared in another thread but I wanted to give an update. I had an issue with one of my XL kit wheel hexs stripping out. I have seen a lot of other folks on this forum having issues as well. I for one like the Axial Crawler and Falken tires but I wanted a more durable rim. I am really digging the MT4 wheels. They have held up on my 18lb Rival with 6s bashing for a year! So I decided to try them on Crawler tires on my XL. I have put in several runs so far with great success! The tire bead in the wheel fits the tire better than the stock Axial rim. Those of you who built the kit version know it was a pain glueing the tires because of the fit. The offset is dead on! It actually may be a mm or two wider which will help with stability. The Thunder Tiger MT4G3 wheel (17mm hex) part number is PD8321. Thunder Tiger ORANGE wheel ring part # PD8323 Thunder Tiger RED wheel ring part # PD8923 Thunder Tiger GREEN wheel ring part # PD8322 Thunder Tiger YELLOW wheel ring part # PD8322-Y The Team Associated rival uses the same wheel (17mm hex) part # 25767. This set comes with blue wheel rings. Note of warning: The EMTA wheel will not work It looks the same as the MT4 and Rival at a glance but has a 23mm size hex. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by BobTeagle; 04-02-2015 at 11:52 AM. |

Update. I tried to dye a set of extra wheel rings. Do not, I repeat do not try to dye them! The plastic would not take the dye and they warped from the heat. I have used the Rit dye process on many applications and this is the first time I have had this happen. In a nutshell. Buy the color u want or paint the rings. |

My rears are starting to round already. Front's are perfect. The plastic is definitely too soft. I ordered a set per Bob's recommendation. Finding Orange Rings in stock is a PITA.

Two words "Plasti dip"...it comes almost any color you could want. It's cheap and when it does where off just spray on some more. My whole body is Plasti dipped in black and yes its starting to peel off cause of riding on the lid but a quick respsray and it's all good

Bob, why doesn't your truck have any scratches? Have you not abused this thing yet??? It's almost impossible to not barrel roll it on the first outing.

lol, I like your sense of humor Damnir! I've rolled mine sure enough. I run mostly on grass and soft dirt. The scratches are there just faint. I do believe that the suspension tuning and wider offset of the mt4 wheels has helped stability. I don't roll over near as much now. Move the rear shock to rear position 30wt front helper springs and stock rear long springs in rear. 30wt hpi medium helper and stock front long springs up front. |

Haha, I'm just poking fun. We all love our brand new shiny trucks... so tempting to just sit it on a shelf! I will fiddle with the rear shocks soon.. The GPM lower links, since I'm running them backwards to line-up the sway bar holes, is making the geometry a little wonkier. Probably causing me more trouble than it's worth. I've got some MT4 hubs here, as well as misc. Team Associated extenders. I'm going to try the 1/2 offset ones shortly and see what happens when I crank the steering at good speed on the grass. |

FYI you can get new Wheels for $45. These are the ones i got. for when my stock ones explode. You could pay more for the MT4 G3's but why. http://www.dollarhobbyz.com/team-associated/rival-monster-truck/team-associated-1-8-rival-monster-truck-tires-wheels.html. |

You are correct. My plan is to bake the Rival tire off and throw on the Falkens. I couldn't find Rival or MT4 rims by themselves and this is the cheapest way i thought of.

When I have removed worn tires from good rims I have cut the tire to remove the foam insert, then boiled the remaining portion of the tire off. that way I didn't have to deal with the hot water filled foams. Baking works best when saving/reuseing the tire. Boiling works best when saving/reuseing the rim. | |
