I think I'm gonna buy an SCX10 width Currie and space it out with 2350 SLWs to make it Yeti width. Hey it's an SCX10/Yeti width Currie now. | |

Are the pinion bearings larger on the SSD axles? Like the VP AR60 V2 axle housing? I'm running the V2 AR60 with the Axial full width axle / lockouts and just wanted to add to the point that using offset hubs sucks! Only way I stopped bending axles was by going full width. I'd like to go with a centered housing axle, but only if it had everything beefier like my current V2 AR60 setup. The way that Vanquish added the larger pinion bearing, the killer bearing cups that the 15x10 bearings are housed in, the axles and housing are one solid billet and the fact that there are 3 bearings supporting the axles on each side with the full width Axial axles. As of right now, all the current center housing axles on the market would be a step down compared to what I'm running. I just wish Vanquish would come out with full width clamping lockouts to go with the Axial axles. Last edited by Crazykev; 03-30-2016 at 11:14 AM. |

More importantly, BOTH pinion bearings are larger on the SSD. SSD also has optional HD shafts that get rid of the 2mm pin and the through hole.

I have been running the SSD wide diamond axle on my Yeti since the beginning of this season. The axle shafts that come with it are all but useless. I am a decent driver but every race one of the rear shafts gets bent. One bent so bad it broke the cross pin and chewed up the axle end bearing retainer cap. I need a new cap but I don't see any option to buy replacement parts. "Image below this post". I installed the new HD shafts and my next race is next weekend. If I bend one of them due to anything other of a high speed cartwheel or hitting a huge rock at high speed I'm going to have to go with another option. The Yeti is a heavy rig and it definitely needs beefy shafts. I would have expected my stock front shafts to have bent first but they are still staight. That being said, I do like the SSD parts and use them a lot on my Class 2 Trail Comp rig and my Yeti. I was very pleased to see another vendor offer quality parts for reasonable prices. The packaged wide axle shafts that come with their wide axle are the only items I have had an issue with really other than their SCX10 axles having a bit of a warped mold which is really only noticed if you mill them for Beef Tubes. Below are images of the stock SSD shafts that come with the wide axle next to the SSD HD axle set for comparison. Bringing the pain since 1968 Last edited by Vengeance; 04-23-2016 at 08:21 AM. |

Quick update- Pm'd SSD and they replied quickly and requested I contact their Customer Support. I emailed SSD Customer support and their response was very fast. They are sending me 2 replacement bearing retainer axle caps. Thank you SSD for great customer service and parts support. Jason Lasswell Bringing the pain since 1968 |

So quick update, raced this weekend. At first I thought I had walked away unscathed, but I did not. Today I was performing maintenance on the Yeti and noticed one of my rear wheels looks off. I took of the wheel and sure as shite the new HD shaft was bent just like the cheaper ones that come with the axle. I beat the snot out of my Wraith which is heavier and uses stock axle shafts and it cane away with zero problems. I have contacted SSD and am now awaiting a response. So I received a reply from Chris at SSD today. First I wish to say thank you to him for his quick response and willingness to send out another set of HD shafts. There were however a couple comments made that I found a little concerning though. Below is his email to me. "Hi Jason Our tester has not had an issue with these shafts so it's strange that you say thay you bent them so easily. We also have not received a lot of complaints about these shafts. Running metal wheels on a go fast truck is always going to stress axle shafts. On this occasion we will send out replacement axle shafts. You will need to wait for me to get them sent to me before I can forward them to you. Chris" The concerns I have are with his statements; "We also have not received a lot of complaints about these shafts." And "Running metal wheels on a go fast truck is always going to stress axle shafts." So obviously they have had some complaints. Secondly do not most of the U4RC competing trucks have aluminuim wheels? The Wraith I raced last Saturday has heavy Gear Head wheels and I caught way more air and one wheel landings with it and the stock axle shafts had zero issues. I'd like to see how many of you racing U4RC are using steel or aluminum wheels. Also, if using the aluminum wheels is what is causing this, which beadlock, non-glue wheels should I use. This is the first time I have experienced repeated bent axle shafts from any manufacturer. If you scroll up and look at my comparison images of the standard and HD SSD shafts the only difference seems to be the cross pin area and utilization of a proprietary hex. It should also be noted I am using 2.2 Method slw rims with the smallest offset slw hubs available. Thoughts? Bringing the pain since 1968 Last edited by Vengeance; 05-04-2016 at 08:07 PM. |

Well he is right about the aluminum wheel but I don't think that should be a huge issue especially with how light a vp wheel is for an aluminum wheel.

Except a plastic wheel flexes.. Aluminum doesn't.

Plastic axles and plastic wheels flex a little. Change all the parts to aluminum/steel/Ti and something has got to give.

Thank you all that replied thus far. What are U4RC racers using then to side step these issues? Bringing the pain since 1968 |
